About the Department

To assist the baking or culinary instructor in the kitchen with student observation, safety training, and lab equipment maintenance.

Position Duties

  1. Assistant will help set-up demonstrations and lab exercises for the day
  2. Assist students that are working in the kitchen lab 
  3. Answers questions any students have while in lab 
  4. Work with students that need extra help
  5. Daily equipment maintenance 
  6. Help students with questions about lab exercises
  7. Work with a small group of students during lab classes
  8. Assist with sales and events as needed
  9. Assist as needed with field trips or events off campus
  10. Safely supervise students in the kitchen, follow all rules and guidelines and implement all school standards daily
  11. Monitor sanitation and safety 
  12. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong understanding of the culinary industry and cooking/baking methods.
  • One (1) year of industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of kitchen tools, equipment, and safety protocols.

  • Knowledge of all aspects of kitchen protocol and operation.
  • Basic knowledge of culinary instructional practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to communicate verbally in ways that meet clients’ needs and levels of understanding. 
  • Ability to receive and process information in a professional, sensitive, timely, and confidential manner.
  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
  • Ability to consistently convey a pleasant and helpful attitude by using excellent interpersonal and communication skills to control sometimes stressful and emotional situations. Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve complaints/issues, defuse anger, and gain cooperation.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out activities independently. Strong time management skills to support efficient work production and meet deadlines.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants for this position possessing one or more of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities with receive preferred consideration through the selection process.

  • Preferred skills include strong kitchen skill including equipment operation and maintenance.
