Description

The heart of Boston Ballet is the human experience. Through our living and breathing art, we forge human connections—between artist and attendee, teacher and trainee, friend and newcomer, one's outer and inner self. We believe that the community of employees that makes dance possible is better together when talented individuals with varied life experiences, identities, races, cultures and ideas are welcomed, encouraged, and heard.

Annually, Boston Ballet presents its production of The Nutcracker at the Citizens Bank Opera House (located at 539 Washington Street in the Downtown Crossing area) between Thanksgiving and New Years’ Eve, with approximately 250 students from Boston Ballet School. Boston Ballet is seeking individuals to work on a temporary, hourly basis as a Child Supervisor for this season’s production. Throughout October and November, Child Supervisors will be needed at the Boston Ballet studio (located at 19 Clarendon Street in the South End) to help check students in for costume fittings, costume distributions, and assist with rehearsals at the Boston Ballet studios.

From November 23 through December 28 Supervisors will be needed at the Citizens Bank Opera House to oversee child performers during rehearsals and performances. This hourly position is considered temporary and seasonal and requires daytime and evening hours throughout the performance run. Weekday matinees are scheduled for December 5th and 6th and December 11 – December 28. There are no rehearsals or performances scheduled on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Supervisors will not need to attend all rehearsals and performances, but availability and flexibility during this time are important.

Responsibilities

As a Child Supervisor, individuals are responsible for monitoring children during rehearsals, costume fittings, and performances. At the Opera House, supervisors will escort children backstage and must be familiar with the production for the purpose of getting the children to wardrobe and onstage at the appropriate times, as well as safe and efficient entrances and exits from the stage area.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children is required and previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of music, dance, and performing arts productions is a plus.
  • Stage Management experience is a plus.
  • Please note, all candidates will be subject to a background check as a condition of employment.
