The Prince George’s County Office of Finance is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Accounts Payable Supervisor, (Accountant II) grade G21 position, in the Accounting Division.
About the Position
This position is responsible for supervising the Accounts Payable (AP) section, including the review of AP documentation and oversight of daily payment cycles. It serves as a subject matter expert in support of financial system implementations and upgrades, providing guidance, testing support, and ensuring alignment with County policies and accounting standards.
About the Agency
The Office of Finance is dedicated to maximizing available resources and delivering creative and innovative financial services to a wide range of internal and external customers of the County. The Office of Finance:
Controls all cash and investments to assure maximum safety, liquidity and yield.
Collects all revenues and receipts due to the County, including property taxes.
Conducts tax sales to collect delinquent property taxes.
Processes and/or monitors payments to vendors, employees, or other payees for goods, services, and other liabilities.
Processes biweekly payroll for 6,000 employees and monthly payroll for 2,000 retirees.
Certifies availability of funds for payment of liabilities and obligations.
Maintains system of accounts and records for all financial transactions.
Reports results of financial operations using established reporting standards and methods.
Facilitates annual financial audit process.
Supports the legislative process - including composing and reviewing draft resolutions and bills, esp., those involving complex financial issues.
Position Duties
Assigns various duties to accounting personnel based on volume of AP related documents submitted for payment. Prepares and distributes list of AP Direct Pay documents in an "open" status for AP staff to review. Based on results of AP staff review, AP Supervisor will either "release" document for payment or "reject" the document and inform Agency of reason for rejection. Assists AP staff and Agency staff to resolve issues that may have procedural issues or technical issues. Reviews daily positive pay transactions. Serves as back-up for manual/voids. Relays timely, pertinent, and accurate information to persons inquiring about the Accounts Payable function. Shows courtesy and tact in dealing with others and communicates (both in written and verbal presentations) clearly, concisely, and in a way that is easily understood by the person being addressed evidenced by fewer than four valid complaints annually. Helps with audit of 1099 forms by checking accuracy and assists with mailing before January 31st of each year. Ensures that final files are submitted to IRS by established deadlines. Provides subject matter expertise and performs assigned tasks in support of financial software implementations and upgrades as continued transition and evolution in SAP. Operates data processing equipment and interprets output from County's automated accounting system environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Quantitative Analyses or Business Administration or a related field. At least one (1) year of professional accounting experience.
At least three (3) years of professional accounting experience. At least three (3) years of supervisory experience. Experience working in a local government setting. Experience in SAP and Microsoft Suite
