About the Department
Under general supervision, drives and operates special purpose vehicles and equipment consistent with
the specified class evaluation factors.
Position Duties
Drives and operates special purpose vehicles and equipment consistent with departmental standards
and procedures.
• Operates mounted equipment, implements, and accessories associated with or attached to the vehicle.
• Loads and unloads materials or transported equipment.
• Plans sequence of operations.
• Changes various attachments.
• Directs the work activities of assigned helpers.
• Performs minor maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment, including, but not limited to,
cleaning and servicing with gasoline, diesel fuel, water, oil, and grease.
• Assists in performing repairs of vehicles and equipment during inclement weather.
• Assists crew of assigned vehicle.
FREEWAY UNIT
- Must be comfortable navigating and working in high traffic areas with high speeds.
- Have the ability to understand and execute MDOT regulated traffic set ups for closures and work zones (Training provided).
- A clear understanding of map points sent via text for work locations.
- Required to support and assist the crew. This includes, cone set up, spotting traffic activity, loading collected litter bags, placing signage and providing needed supplies.
GROUNDS
- Drives and operates special purpose vehicles and equipment consistent with departmental standards and procedures.
- Loads and unloads materials or transported equipment & operates mounted equipment, implements, and accessories associated with or attached to the vehicle, changes various attachments.
- Plans sequence of operations & may direct & assist the work activities of assigned helpers & required to assist crew of assigned vehicle..
- Performs minor maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment, including, but not limited to,
- cleaning and servicing with gasoline, diesel fuel, water, oil, and grease.
- Assists in performing repairs of vehicles and equipment during inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications
• Two (2) years’ of experience in the operation of special purpose vehicles and equipment.
