Care Alliance Health Center seeks a transformative Chief People Officer (CPO) to serve as a key member of the executive leadership team. The CPO will lead the people strategy of the organization, ensuring that culture, employee relations, human resources, and talent development are aligned with Care Alliance’s Mission and Vision.

This leader will design and implement people strategies that strengthen our culture, enhance employee engagement, and ensure Care Alliance remains both a provider of choice and an employer of choice in Northeast Ohio.

Key Competencies:


Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO and executive team to shape and implement a people and culture agenda rooted in the Mission and Vision of Care Alliance.
  • Provide strategic guidance on workforce planning, organizational design, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Lead change management efforts that reinforce organizational values and long-term sustainability.

Employee Relations

  • Provide executive oversight of all employee relations, ensuring fairness, transparency, and respect.
  • Develop and oversee processes for addressing workplace concerns, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Coach and support managers in building their confidence to address employee concerns effectively.
  • Foster an organizational climate where trust, dignity, and psychological safety are paramount.

People and Culture

  • Build and nurture a workplace culture that reflects empathy, respect, and shared purpose.
  • Ensure that staff engagement, recognition, and feedback mechanisms reinforce the Mission and Vision.
  • Champion belonging, cultural humility, and continuous learning across the organization.
  • Create opportunities for employees to regularly connect their daily work with Care Alliance’s greater purpose.

Human Resources Oversight

  • Lead HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, compensation and benefits, compliance, and performance management with HR Manager & HR Generalist.
  • Modernize HR policies, systems, and SOPs to reflect best practices and strengthen alignment with Care Alliance’s values.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and healthcare workforce regulations.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to integrate people strategy into overall organizational planning.

Employee Development and Growth

  • Design and implement leadership training, coaching, and mentoring programs.
  • Create pathways for staff development and advancement that reinforce employee retention.
  • Oversee a performance management framework that supports growth, accountability, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Build systems to identify and develop emerging leaders within the organization.


Required Experience:

  • Ideal candidate will have at least 7–10 years of progressive leadership in HR, with a minimum of 3–5 years at the Director, VP, or Chief level with the ability to drive strategy.  
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field is preferred. However, extensive experience with a proven track record of executive-level HR leadership can be considered commensurate.
  • Certifications such as SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, or SPHR are strongly preferred, but not required. 
  • Experience in healthcare or a nonprofit healthcare setting is preferred.  Experience in other regulated industries (finance, higher education, government, etc.) could also be a good fit.
  • Prior experience with Paylocity or other Human Capital Management systems is preferred.   
  • Must have an innovative mindset and the ability to develop new ways of working across a diverse talent pool to optimize work and performance.
  • Excellent communications skills.
