POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Foundation and Institutional Giving is a member of the Fundraising and Development team and is responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with foundation partners, corporate partners and other key stakeholders to secure funding for Foundation for Jewish Camp’s programs, initiatives, and general operating support. The Director will play a key role in shaping FJC’s foundation and institutional funding strategy, developing compelling proposals, and ensuring foundation partners are engaged and informed. Additionally, the Director, Foundation and Institutional Giving will supervise the work of a contracted grant writer to ensure proposals are effectively prepared and strategically aligned with organizational priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Foundation Relationships
- Cultivate and steward meaningful, long-term relationships with current and prospective foundation partners.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for foundation funders, ensuring timely, transparent, and mission-aligned communication.
- Proactively identify new foundation prospects and develop strategies to engage them in support of FJC’s work.
- Align FJC’s strategic priorities with funder interests, ensuring mutual value and shared impact.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to translate programmatic goals into compelling funding opportunities and reports.
Prospecting, Research, and Proposal/Report Writing
- Manage the research of prospects for foundation, corporate, and government funding to address organizational needs.
- Gather information and data needed from FJC staff to support grant submissions and reporting.
- Ensure high-quality writing and timely submission of funding proposals, reports, and any other requested documents. Accuracy, attention to detail, and highlights of impact and outcomes must be central to each submission.
- Collaborate with Finance, the Chief Advancement Officer, and other FJC staff to identify budget needs and strategize how to package them in an appealing manner for funders.
Grants Stewardship
- In partnership with the Development Operations Manager, ensure that all grants are acknowledged in a timely manner.
- In partnership with relevant FJC team members, set up and manage site visits by representatives of funders, as needed.
Grants Management
- In partnership with the Development Operations Manager, maintain a detailed schedule of grant deadlines, submission dates, and reporting requirements to ensure timely submissions and compliance with grant agreements.
- Partner with program teams to oversee the management of awarded grants, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements, budget tracking, and successful project execution.
- Hold regular funder updates with Program Directors to discuss and inform of progress, awards, reporting, etc.
- In partnership with the Development Operations Manager, maintain records of all grant-related reports and activities in FJC’s database. Records must include contracts, grant proposals, submissions, awards, rejections, and reporting schedules.
- Facilitate grant orientation meetings once new grants are awarded and transfer all relevant information at the launch meetings to the key staff.
- Facilitate regular grants management meetings with leads on grants/contracts and finance staff to assess progress on implementation and spending and address any issues with grant deployment.
- Create a strategy for corporate sponsorships and funding.
- Work closely with Finance to ensure appropriate expenditure and accurate financial accounting and reporting.
- Ensure accurate tracking of grants revenue and provide funding information as needed to the CEO, Chief Advancement Officer, other departments, and the Board.
- Communicate any potential issues with grant compliance to leadership in a timely manner.
Administrative
- Ensure quality maintenance of database records on grant prospects, submissions, and deliverables.
- Ensure grant files are managed in a manner that is clear, robust, accessible, and comprehensible to others.
Leadership and Other Tasks
- Stay current on trends in foundation and institutional giving.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Chief Advancement Officer.
