The opportunity we have available

Join Our Team as a Senior Project Officer!

Are you a motivated and capable professional seeking a dynamic role where you can make a real impact on how Australians engage with media content? The Classification Branch, part of the Digital Platforms, Safety and Classification Division, is looking for two (2) APS6 Senior Project Officers to join our small, multi-disciplinary team.

The Classification Branch plays a critical role in helping all Australians make informed decisions about what they watch, play or read. We safeguard the community from harmful or offensive material by maintaining oversight of the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Act 1995 under the National Classification Scheme.

In this pivotal role, you will have a strong focus on service delivery and engaging with, and supporting, a diverse range of industry stakeholders.

What will you do?

As a member of a small multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to the implementation of classification policy with a focus on service delivery. The role is varied and dynamic, but typical duties include:

  • Lead Projects: Deliver and support classification-related projects, ensuring they align with government policy objectives and community expectations. You will also lead or contribute to project planning, implementation, and coordination.
  • Engage and Collaborate: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry partners, other government agencies, and our classification boards. Your advice will be well-informed, consistent, and constructive.
  • Provide Expert Advice: Prepare high-quality briefings, ministerial correspondence, and technical advice, distilling complex classification issues clearly for senior executives and external audiences.
  • Drive Improvement: Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance workflows, digital systems, and service delivery models, aligning with the Department’s broader digital and customer-focused agenda.
  • Team Leadership: Support team capability development by modelling APS values and an inclusive and accountable workplace culture.

The successful candidate applicant may be required to view harmful content as an inherent requirement of the role. This may include any of the following, reading descriptions of painful and traumatic events experienced by others, abusive or offensive language, graphic violence etc. The Department acknowledges this type of work is not suited for everyone. If you believe you would find this type of content distressing or triggering, please reflect on whether this is the right role for you.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a proactive and skilled individual who demonstrates capability at the APS6 Work Level Standards. This means you can manage complex work with limited direction, provide specialist advice, and consistently deliver high-quality outputs that contribute to our team and organisational goals. Our ideal candidate is solutions focused, proactive, flexible and agile.

Specifically, you will have the ability to:

  • build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • contribute to the effective management of a high-performing team by supporting colleagues, fostering a positive work environment, and promoting knowledge sharing;
  • assist in the preparation of high-quality briefings, reports, and correspondence for senior management and stakeholders; and
  • contribute to the ongoing improvement of processes and systems by identifying opportunities for streamlining and enhancement.

Experience working within classification, regulatory, or statutory frameworks, or in environments involving legal, content, or community standards, will be highly regarded.
