Position Overview


We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Industrial Painter to join our heavy industrial structural steel fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have experience applying industrial coatings to large steel components using various painting techniques and equipment. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.


Responsibilities


  • Prepare structural steel components for painting, including cleaning, sanding, grinding, and abrasive blasting.
  • Mix and apply industrial coatings such as primers, epoxies, urethanes, and other corrosion-resistant materials according to specifications.
  • Use spray guns, brushes, and rollers to apply coatings evenly and efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain painting equipment (airless sprayers, conventional sprayers, etc.).
  • Mask and protect surfaces that should not be painted.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure proper coating thickness (DFT) and adhesion in accordance with job specifications and industry standards (e.g., SSPC/NACE).
  • Read and interpret paint specifications, job orders, and blueprints.
  • Follow proper handling, labeling, and disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, QA/QC personnel, and other departments to ensure production goals and deadlines are met.


Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of industrial painting experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment, preferably structural steel.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation standards and coating systems (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO).
  • Ability to operate spray equipment, abrasive blasting equipment, and basic hand tools.
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and proper PPE usage.
  • Physical stamina to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), work at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Certification in industrial painting (e.g., NACE Level I, SSPC C6/C7) is a strong asset.
  • Experience with zinc-rich primers and multi-coat systems.
  • Forklift or overhead crane certification.
  • Material handling experience is a strong plus, including the use of rigging, cranes, and forklifts to move and position steel components safely and efficiently.


Important Notes


  • This is a safety-sensitive position. In accordance with JGM’s safety policy and applicable regulations, individuals actively using medical marijuana are not eligible for this role.
  • Candidates must successfully pass a drug screening, including testing for marijuana, prior to starting employment. 


Work Environment


  • Heavy industrial shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Requires the use of PPE including respirators, coveralls, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
