Position Summary

The Grief Specialist provides bereavement support to hospice families in coordination with the interdisciplinary team and provide Journey programming to the broader community related to end-of-life and grief issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Following a patient death, provide initial grief support needs and psychosocial assessments of families and clients desiring grief support services.
  • Develop a care plan with the client and IDG members that identifies the client's needs, outcomes, and interventions.
  • Document all client contact and interventions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide ongoing grief support services and psychosocial assessments for up to 13 months post-death.
  • Refer clients to support groups and community resources as appropriate.
  • Facilitate grief support groups for grief clients and the public.
  • Maintain documentation of support groups and other grief support services for program evaluation.
  • Provide resources, referrals, and community education presentations regarding grief and loss and end-of-life issues in the community.
  • Provide grief counseling to clients and familiarize yourself with community referrals when client needs are outside of our scope of practice.   
  • Provide supervision of volunteers assisting the department in collaboration with the volunteer coordinators
  • Assist in the development of grief programming and services.
  • Report program activity and issues to the grief support manager.
  • Properly track community presentations.
  • Participate in the measurement of grief programming outcomes.

Pay:  $25.22 starting, depends upon experience

Qualifications


REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Social Work, LAPC, MDiv or related field
  • Licensure in North Dakota and Minnesota, if applicable
  • Current driver's license and auto insurance
  • Training and experience with grief and loss counseling of individuals and families; and group facilitation
  • Training and experience in family dynamics and psychosocial assessment
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Strong communication skills
