QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED/completion of Licensed LPN/LVN program.
LPN in good standing with the Ok State Board of Nursing.
Certified in CPR.
Must pass a National Criminal History Record Check.
Demonstrates ability to skillfully perform health care activities, as directed by the school nurse coordinator.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate appropriately with the school nurse coordinator, pupils, school personnel and parents.
Working knowledge of basic clerical/computer skills commensurate with need.
Understands the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of information learned in the performance of duties.
JOB GOAL: To support the professional services of the registered nurse and to care for staff and student health injuries/needs and/or illnesses in a safe and expedient manner. The LPN works with parents, students and school personnel for the control and prevention of disease and for the development of optimum health of each student.
REPORTS TO: School Nurse Coordinator, Building Administrator
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates punctuality and dependability.
General appearance: clean and appropriately dressed.
Displays a positive attitude and interest in the job.
Obtains and maintains health and immunization records.
Manages and maintains the school clinic, carrying out selected duties as requested by the school nurse coordinator.
Appraise the health status of students and staff, referring for medical attention, as necessary.
Acts as liaison between home and school by utilizing nurse/family conferences, phone calls, letters and home visits.
Assists school nurse coordinator in conjunction with staff in implementing a total school health program.
Conducts health-related classroom presentations with school nurse coordinator approval.
Excludes and readmits students with communicable diseases.
Complies with blood borne pathogen standards and other health program policies.
Assists school personnel in meeting health policies of the school district.
Technical duties and procedures performed after approval and under the supervision of the school nurse coordinator.
Channels requests for health related information and nursing services to the staff registered nurse.
Documentation of all health visits, screening and health related contacts with parents/guardians, while maintaining confidentiality.
Reports staff/student accidents to staff registered nurse/Building Administrator in a timely manner.
Provides mandated health screenings and referrals for health conditions.
Provides CPR training for High School students to fulfill graduation requirements and maintains BLS instructor certification.
Administer medications and assistance with management of special health care needs, including asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders and allergies, etc.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to effectively communicate with small groups, classrooms, and individuals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to understand instructions as presented orally or in written form. Ability to work independently within the scope of practice and within state and district guidelines of policy and procedure using discretion and good judgment.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstration of the ability to cooperate in a team effort with other staff members. Exhibit knowledge of job limitations and accept supervision. Performs all health related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school health program.
