We are looking for a Environmental Health and Safety Intern (May - August 2026) at our Taylorville, IL Facility. The hourly rate of pay range for this role is $20.00-$30.00 an hour.
Position description
This position will support and coordinate activities related to Health, Safety and Environmental compliance issues.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all safety policies, OSHA regulations, ISO1400, QS9000 standards and policies.
- Participate in quarterly Safety/Quality meetings and safety training sessions.
- Provide monitoring to identify best practices in the facility to reduce exposure to dangerous conditions.
- Drafts reports, highlighting dangerous procedures, machinery, and other risks for management review.
- Assist in the review of safety procedures, training programs and other policy reviews.
- Active in Near Miss reporting, behavior-based safety, safety audits, and other leading indicators
- Actively participate in the plant safety committee
- Review and develop Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) and risk assessments.
- Participate in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action
- Support safety related culture for all workers
- Remain up to date on hazard prevention and safety best practices, equipment, and developments.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education, Experience and Credentials
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program focusing on EHS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Requires the ability to use multiple computer programs/systems including MS Office Suite.
- Requires ability to be consistently at work and on time on scheduled workdays.
- Attention to detail.
- Experience in a team-based environment.
- Exercise a high degree of independent judgment, self-motivation and communication skills both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements
- Dedicated keyboard and computer screen work.
- The employee possesses the ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle controls, and talk or hear and use fingers to manipulate controls.
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to bend, stoop, and lift items weighing ten to fifteen pounds.
- The employee must have the ability to work in a manufacturing production setting, including the ability to use stairs and ship ladders to maneuver within the plant with occasional exposure to working near moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to: steel toe foot ware, eye protection, bump cap, ear plugs, ect.
