AltaGas - Advisor, Policy & Government Relations
AltaGas’ Government Affairs team leads excellence in government relations, policy development, trade association engagement, and project management to support our midstream business.
We’re excited to introduce a new opportunity for an Advisor, Policy and Government Relations to join this growing team. In this role you’ll bring strong analytical, research, and project management skills to help shape and execute public policy positions and external affairs priorities aligned with AltaGas’ business strategy. You’ll collaborate across departments to support operational excellence, energy transition, and carbon reduction initiatives.
You Will:
Maintain a deep understanding of AltaGas’ corporate strategy and energy/climate policy priorities
Research and monitor government policy, regulatory issues, and incentive programs in Canada, the U.S. (especially Alberta, B.C., Washington State), and key global markets
Analyze trends in energy and environmental policy; develop briefing notes, position statements, and policy content
Prepare briefing materials for senior leadership on issues impacting operations and project development
Support advocacy strategies, stakeholder engagement, and industry alignment.
Coordinate responses to proposed government policies and regulations
Track external policy developments in North America and Asia
Partner with internal teams to assess policy impacts on business strategy
Research emerging policy topics to support relationships in new regions
Maintain lobbyist registries, stakeholder databases, and legislative tracking tools
Provide general support to the External Affairs team as needed
You Have:
1–3 years in policy development, government relations, or related fields
Strategic thinker with a solid understanding of government structures and legislative processes in Canada and the U.S.
Knowledge of energy industry, especially natural gas and transportation sectors
Familiarity with energy transition, climate policy, and ESG frameworks
Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building mindset
Highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage shifting priorities
Willingness to travel within North America
