We are looking for a Head of Medical Strategy, Field & Operations to join us in our Australia team

 

About the role

Provides medical and scientific leadership and oversight for the Patient Value Unit (PVU) and oversees the operations of the Medical Information function for the affiliate. The medical head is the internal expert for a specific therapy area in a UCB affiliate local operating company medical department. He/she provides the medical voice and actions as the counterpart to commercial brand team.

The Medical Strategy Head provides coaching, and training for the Medical Team, including Medical Science Liaisons.

The medical Head also participates in the operational provision of general medical affairs activities(where applicable):

  • Compliance review
  • Support for drug safety/LS function as required

The Medical Strategy Head, Rare Disease & Epilepsy, provides functional leadership for the Medical Information function and oversees operations for the Australian affiliate.

 

What you’ll do

  • The role is an active member of the PVU Leadership Team, with overall responsibility for management of the Medical Team within the PVU, including responsibility for development plans for these team members.
  • As first line manager of the Field Medical Lead (FML), the Medical Strategy Head is responsible for working with the to build capabilities and therapy knowledge of the MSL team.
  • Medical Strategy Head is responsible for development of the PVU Medical Strategy (in collaboration with the other members of the PVU Leadership Team) and is responsible for in-field implementation of the Medical Strategy via the MSLs
  • Overseas developments, adaptation, and implementation of materials and educational programs designed to advance UCB’s medical and scientific agenda, including review and approval of specified promotional and non-promotional materials.
  • Manage OPEX budget associated with medical program development and execution
  • Provides medical and scientific guidance as part of the PVU Leadership Team, and approval for all UCB activities.
  • Leadership of local Integrated Scientific Evidence Generation Plans together with the local Medical and APEX functions.
  • Assesses feasibility and strategic alignment of any unsolicited investigator initiated studies (IIS) and facilitates submission into global review committees.
  • Identifies unmet needs to develop a RWE strategic plan in line with internal UCB objectives and external stakeholder needs and leads the analysis of outcomes to build value for UCB and patients.
  • Leads the local publication plan and ensures implementation
  • Works with Ecosystem Leads (ESL’s) to design and provide training and mentoring programs to field based HCP-Partners to ensure they have the necessary scientific knowledge and skills to be effective in their role.
  • Represents country in discussions with regional Connector and Global involving clinical research projects.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders/advisors to identify opportunities for UCB to further contribute to the creation of patient value.
  • Take proactive steps to ensure that patients that receive a UCB product have the best possible experience.
  • Leads Medical Information function to ensure stakeholder questions receive high quality responses in a timely manner and that the all inquiries are logged in internal system.

 

Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a Medical function (ie. Medical Science Liaison, Medical Advisor) in the pharmaceutical industry;
  • experience in the field of neurology preferred; graduate degree in life sciences, pharmacy or medicine will be considered.
