Position: Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) – Lead Preschool Teacher
Location: Little Glad Early Childhood Center
Days & Hours: Monday – Friday
SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Little Glad Early Childhood Center, the GSRP Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for all aspects of planning, evaluating and supporting child development/school readiness skills of children enrolled in his/her classroom. The Preschool Teacher oversees the daily operations of the preschool classroom based on a philosophy of culturally responsive care and trauma informed principles. The Lead Preschool Teacher must ensure an environment that is nurturing and supports the development of children ages 4-5 and integrates all required components required by the Great Start to Readiness Program, Great Start to Quality and child care licensing.

- Maintain a working knowledge of child development performance standards and their relationship to the program’s curriculum, assessments and procedures.
- Works collaboratively with all staff members who support the children at Little Glad.
- Creates a welcoming, safe, engaging and supportive classroom environment.
- Keeps the health, safety, and social emotional needs of the children a priority.
- Maintains the classroom space in a clean, organized and purposeful manner.
- Works with support staff to enforce program standards and provide guidance and direction.
- Produces weekly lesson plans that follow Creative Curriculum and GSRP/LESA standards.
- Obtains initial assessment information gained from Ages and Stages and ongoing data collection.
- Uses Teaching Strategies Gold, provides anecdotal record keeping and developmentally appropriate goal setting and individualized planning and shares this information with parents at conferences.
- Learns and proficiently uses Child Plus programming as expected by GSRP/LESA. Produce and submit all required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Schedules and completes home visits as least twice a year.
- Provides a monthly newsletter to families.
- Attends all training provided by Little Glad and GSRP/LESA, maintaining required levels.
- Facilitates supportive communication with children, families and staff. Appropriate verbal and proficient written skills are expected when conversing, and using electronic communication.
- Promotes parent participation and involvement in education activities for their children.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the work of the teacher assistant and volunteers in the classroom on a day to day basis.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching with a major in child development or early childhood education OR a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Special Education (ZS) endorsement.
A minimum of 1 to 2 years of progressively more responsible, or expansive, experience supporting children in an early childhood setting and work as a team leader with classroom supervisory experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, children, parents or employees of the district.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to assess areas and activities for potential safety issues.Ability to assist students, parents, and team members with interpersonal issues.
OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
- General knowledge of child care licensing, and GSRP regulations and requirements
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in situations that expose sensitive information.
- Ability to negotiate and resolve emotionally heightened situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with administrators, staff, community members and others.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present, regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk and hear. The employee will be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job but not all inclusive.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when working in a classroom with staff and children. Difficulties may result from dealing with sporadic interruptions, averaging one every few minutes, which may affect the efficient completion of the day’s tasks. The teacher is required to work within a very tight time frame each day. This position requires an individual who is talented at handling multiple tasks of different natures and dealing with individuals of various temperaments and natures.
