Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Technology Training and Communications Specialist is to communicate effectively with all stakeholders; organize and maintain department communications; provide instruction, training and resources to facilitate the use of technology for learning and work; and provide general support as assigned.
This job reports to the Manager of Projects and Training.
Essential Functions
- Assist with the continuous gathering of information and ideas for communication program development
- Assist in developing branding for the Department of Technology and identifying marketing strategies.
- Assists in the identification of solutions for identified training needs to meet customer requests.
- Build and maintain positive rapport with all district personnel to provide exemplary customer service.
- Collaborate and consult with other departments to develop effective training solutions to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
- Continually gather information and ideas for program development for the purpose of ensuring customers’ needs are met.
- Compose internal and external departmental communications to ensure all stakeholders are informed in a timely manner.
- Deliver engaging presentations to ensure engagement and retention.
- Develop communication plans for technology initiatives and product enhancement for the purpose of keeping all stakeholders informed.
- Drive the creation of district level internal and external communications for the purpose of keeping customers informed about work tools, enhancements, and updates.
- Lead the development and maintenance of a public technology resource site to effectively communicate with all district patrons and support district technology initiatives.
- Maintain digital communications on multiple platforms to reach appropriate audiences through different venues, including social media.
- Produce multimedia training content that may include screencasts, videos, animations, etc. to educate staff and students on technology tools and resources.
- Provide small and large group training for the purpose of increasing knowledge of technology tools for work and learning to district staff and patrons, including teachers, support staff, students and parents.
- Provide training resources pertinent to district personnel for the purpose of providing ongoing reference materials such as screencasts, printed materials and online courses.
- Publish pertinent information regarding new products, system/product updates or other advancements provided by Technology Services to communicate ongoing efforts to maintain work tools.
- Research, draft, revise and publish technical documentation supporting end-users’ use of district technology resources to maintain current and best practice information.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices to elevate learning offerings.
- Support continued development of Technology Services’ Communication Plan to ensure departmental plans are appropriate and meet customer needs.
- Support continued development of Technology Services’ Training Plan to ensure customer needs are met or exceeded. Track and maintain metrics of all training deliverables, assess effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement to ensure training is appropriate for each audience.

- Use appropriate technologies and adult learning techniques to design and facilitate various courses and training interventions for district personnel and patrons.
- Work collaboratively with technology staff and customers to foster and enhance a positive and helpful work environment.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE is required to understand technical information and educational technology. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the job functions include: using creative design techniques with a variety of applications; considerable knowledge of educational technology devices, tools and resources; adult and child learning techniques; and effective presentation methods.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 20% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience
Job related experience within a specialized field is required. At least three years experience working in an educational environment is required.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in job-related area is required.
