Job Title:               Reading Interventionist Teacher

SUMMARY:
To provide targeted academic interventions for at-risk elementary school students who need additional support in reading, as evidenced by student performance data.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university, focus on reading, English, or related field preferred
Master’s degree in reading education or related field preferred
Bilingual/ESL certification preferred


EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 3 years of successful experience teaching in elementary school reading, with experience working with at-risk students preferred


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for elementary school reading

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Deep knowledge of elementary school reading content and research-based instructional strategies and practices
• Familiarity with diagnostic assessments and progress monitoring tools specific to elementary school reading
• Understanding of the unique challenges and strategies for teaching reading to at-risk elementary school students
• Ability to analyze student performance data in reading to identify areas of need and develop targeted interventions
• Knowledge of assistive technology and other accommodations that may support reading instruction for student with learning differences
• Capacity to work collaboratively with reading teachers and content-area teams for the purpose of improving reading instruction and student achievement
• Ability to instruct student s and manage their behavior
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


Instructional Strategies


1. Develop and implement reading interventions that are tailored to the specific needs of at-risk elementary school students, utilizing research-based strategies and resources.
2. Collaborate with reading teachers and content-area teams to ensure that interventions align with classroom instructional and support the overall goals of the elementary school reading curriculum.
3. Administer and analyze diagnostic assessments and progress monitoring data to identify students in need of intervention and track their progress towards grade-level proficiency in elementary school reading.
4. Provide ongoing feedback and support to students, parents, and teachers regarding reading progress and strategies for improvement.
5. Attend professional development and training sessions focused on elementary school reading instruction and intervention strategies.
6. Maintain accurate records and documentation of reading interventions, student progress, and communication with parents and teachers.
7. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child’s reading progress and provide resources and support for at-home reading practice.
8. Collaborate with other intervention teachers and district leaders to align reading interventions, data protocols, and instructional approaches across elementary schools and grade levels.
9. Participate in school-wide events and functions as required, such as parent-teacher conferences, committee and staff meetings.

10. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
11. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
12. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
13. Maintain confidentiality.
14. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
15. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
16. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and responds to questions from administrators, peers, students, parents, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

 

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. Frequent bending, stooping, pulling and pushing are required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interacting with students, the public and other staff.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud depending upon the activity being conducted.
