New Hire Experience:

1% of the base rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

 Job Summary:

The Custodial Operations Manager provides leadership and oversight of custodial services across Mesa Public Schools to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities that support student learning and staff productivity. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising custodial operations districtwide, including staffing, training, scheduling, and performance management. The Custodial Operations Manager develops and implements operational standards, ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, and collaborates with school leaders and district departments to meet facility needs. The role requires strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to lead diverse teams in delivering high-quality service. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees custodial staff scheduling, assignments, and coverage to ensure efficient operations and responsiveness to school site needs.
  • Manages procurement, inventory, and proper use of custodial supplies and equipment, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to district standards.
  • Implements and monitors safety, sanitation, and emergency response procedures to maintain secure, healthy learning environments across all facilities.
  • Develops and implements streamlined processes to enhance efficiency, reduce redundancy, and improve service delivery.
  • Designs and delivers professional learning for assigned staff and colleagues.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Integrates relevant technological tools and advancements to support staff and improve outcomes.
  • Collaborates with administrators and staff to identify and implement improvements in operations and service effectiveness.
  • Leads or participates in special projects and assignments as directed by district leadership.
  • Facilitates development and alignment of the department’s vision and mission with district strategic priorities.
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with stakeholders, emphasizing high-quality customer service.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement using data-informed decision-making practices.
  • Prioritizes and supports effective recruitment, development, and retention of staff.
  • Applies change management strategies to lead and sustain department or district initiatives.
  • Initiates, plans, and manages innovative programs or events that align with district and departmental goals.
  • Monitors and ensures timely completion of projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrates accountability for student-centered outcomes and alignment with the goals of Mesa Public Schools. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Five years’ experience managing custodial related work forces with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Experience with budget development, cost analysis, and vendor contract management related to custodial operations and services.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and other workplace safety standards.
  • Strong ability to lead organizational change, coach staff, and build collaborative, high-performing teams. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in related area; considerable years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Preferred ten years’ experience managing custodial related work forces with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Familiarity with large-scale school district or multi-site operations, including coordinating services across diverse facilities.
  • Basic knowledge of iVisions and TimeClockPlus (TCP) preferred

  • Knowledge of facility management best practices including sustainability, green cleaning standards, and energy-efficient operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for custodial services to drive continuous improvement.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Work is primarily performed in a standard office setting with controlled temperature and lighting.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Requires patience and the ability to manage potentially stressful situations.
  • May require occassional travel between districts locations or schools.
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, loud noises, and equipment vibrations.
  • Working around equipment and machinery with moving parts.
  • Working around moving objects or vehicles.
  • Possible exposure to noxious fumes and offensive odors.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer, and operate office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Ability to work on ladders as needed.
