What you will do:

 

  • You will be delivering and supporting the delivery of timely, commercially focused, sound, non-contentious and contentious legal advice to a variety of stakeholders across Metro Bank, including but not limited to advice in the following areas, as and when required: financial services regulation, payments corporate, commercial, employment, and dispute resolution.
  • You will be drafting, reviewing and negotiating various documentation, including customer facing terms and conditions and agreements with suppliers, partners and resellers.
  • You will be acting as a subject matter expert in respect of certain legal regulatory matters connected to retail banking.
  • You will be supporting Metro Bank to meet its strategy in your day-to-day activities.
  • You will manage legal risk within Metro Bank’s risk appetite.
  • You will be demonstrating and developing skills in internal and external relationship management and stakeholder engagement.
  • You will be providing training and support across the legal team and the broader business to ensure stakeholders are up to date on legal and regulatory matters that are important to Metro Bank.
  • You will be contributing to the carrying out of ongoing horizon-scanning, focusing on developments that may have an impact on Metro Bank.
  • You will be instructing and managing external legal counsel as and when required.
  • You will be supporting engagement with professional, industry and regulatory bodies.
  • Any other duties as required that reasonably fall within the job.

What you will need: 
 

  • Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
  • You will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales.
  • You will have 2-4 years’ post-qualification experience with a ‘top 50’ law firm and/ or in-house.
  • You will have financial services sector experience.
  • You will have worked in-house previously, either as a secondment or full-time.
  • You will have some knowledge of the relevant legal and regulatory challenges facing a FTSE listed retail bank.
  • You will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales.
  • You will be self-motivated with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • You will be capable and willing to pick up work that you are less versed in by using your initiative. 
  • You will be capable of carrying out legal research efficiently using various software and technology.
  • You will be capable of collaborating clearly with stakeholders and developing strong working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • You will be capable of communicating complex legal advice in a concise way that can be easily understood by colleagues who are not legally trained
