Primary Purpose:
At RYSS Schools, the Assistant Principal plays a vital leadership role in supporting academic excellence, equity, and student success. This position directs and manages assigned areas of the instructional program and campus operations, oversees student services, and fosters a culture of collaboration and accountability aligned with our mission: “Making it Happen Together.”
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas Principal Certification or equivalent
- Certified T-TESS Appraiser
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Deep understanding of campus operations and instructional leadership
- Ability to evaluate teaching effectiveness and support instructional growth
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in data interpretation and policy implementation
- Ability to manage personnel and campus resources effectively
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Leadership
- Support innovative instructional practices and program evaluation
- Reinforce high expectations for teaching and classroom management
- Promote team-building and shared decision-making among staff
Campus Improvement
- Lead planning and implementation of campus initiatives
- Collaborate on campus improvement plans with staff, families, and community
- Use data systems to monitor progress toward academic goals
Student Management
- Serve as campus behavioral coordinator as needed
- Implement equitable discipline systems aligned with RYSS values
- Ensure consistent supervision and student safety
Operations & Compliance
- Lead daily campus operations in principal’s absence
- Manage scheduling, attendance, and inventory systems
- Coordinate support services (transportation, cafeteria, custodial)
- Ensure compliance with TEA and district policies
Personnel Support
- Observe and evaluate staff performance
- Assist in hiring and onboarding new team members
- Serve as second appraiser for teacher evaluations
Family & Community Engagement
- Represent the school’s mission to families and community partners
- Initiate outreach activities to meet school-community needs
- Encourage parent involvement and support student recruitment
Other Duties
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate assigned professional staff. Provide leadership to teachers, paraprofessionals, clerical staff, and campus support personnel.
