Where you’ll work:

Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person. You’ll be assigned to our Bristol hub office.

This role in a nutshell:

Reporting to the legal director, you will work directly with commercial and product teams to advise on commercial and customer-facing legal matters. This includes:

  • Advising on launching compelling digital products to our customers, including new products and offerings, promotions, competitions, special offers;
  • Providing advice on data protection consents, data flows and customer journeys;
  • Reviewing advertising copy, brand messaging, and promotional materials for regulatory compliance and data protection issues in marketing, and liaising with marketing teams and regulatory bodies to advise on legal risk and strategic initiatives;
  • Business partnering on a wide range of contracts including licensing, sponsorship, co-branding, and other complex contractual relationships which bring together technology products, software platforms, energy services and partnerships.

A successful candidate is likely to have the following experience level and skills:

  • 4-8 years’ PQE (although aptitude and skills will be given significantly greater weight than PQE).
  • Training in a well-regarded firm or in-house team.
  • Extensive experience in a busy in-house team working with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the consumer regulatory environment and appreciation of consumer protection legislation as well as the CAP/BCAP Codes for advertising.
  • Strong experience of drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, with direct contact with business colleagues / clients.

 

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Build solid relationships with and coach colleagues across the business
  • Provide solutions-focused legal advice across all advertising and communications
  • Review and sign-off promotional materials in line with relevant legislation, guidance and the Advertising Codes
  • Support business partners by identifying and explaining any legal risks and supporting them to navigate such risks to enable the development of compelling advertising campaigns

We’ll pay you between £60,000 and £90,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.

We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
