The Role
You’ll be part of a team that:
- Advises government on SME finance policy.
- Leads the Bank’s day-to-day relationship with government, including input into budgets and fiscal events.
- Shapes our corporate strategy and planning processes.
- Ensures our products and programmes are designed to meet the needs of small businesses.
- Develop evidence-based policy and product proposals to support SME access to finance.
- Work closely with colleagues across economics, product teams, and external stakeholders including government officials.
- Contribute to briefings for senior leaders, including the CEO and Chair.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders through clear, inclusive communication.
- Support the delivery of our Banking Arm strategy, particularly through debt programmes and guarantees.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be especially valuable:
- Policy development or understanding of how public policy is made.
- Knowledge of how government and Whitehall operate.
- Managing complex projects.
- Understanding the challenges SMEs face when accessing finance.
- Producing clear, evidence-based advice for senior decision-makers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving approach.
- Ability to influence and build consensus across different stakeholders.
- Collaborative and open working style.
- Excellent written communication, with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
- Confidence in building relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to balance priorities.
