Job Description:

The Lead Compositing Artist plays a key role in maintaining the visual quality and consistency of a production. Acting as a bridge between the compositing team and the supervisors, they support both the artistic and technical aspects of the workflow. They guide the team, uphold the visual standards set by supervisors, and contribute to the successful delivery of final shots.

Responsibilities

Production

  • Apply and uphold the compositing look and style defined by the Compositing Supervisor and VFX Supervisor.

  • Handle complex shots and serve as a technical and artistic reference for the team.

  • Conduct internal reviews before shots are submitted for supervisor or client approval.

  • Ensure visual consistency across shots and sequences.

  • Collaborate with Lighting, FX, and Pipeline departments to resolve cross-departmental issues.

  • Contribute to improvements of tools, templates, and the compositing pipeline.

  • Help maintain clear and updated documentation for workflows and best practices.

Collaboration

  • Provide technical and artistic guidance to the compositing team.

  • Assist with shot assignments in collaboration with supervisors and production.

  • Support team members in problem-solving and skill development.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for technical or creative challenges.

  • Onboard and mentor new team members in both tools and studio culture.

  • Identify potential production roadblocks and communicate them proactively to supervisors and production.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Lead Compositing Artist or key artist on a sequence or full project.

  • Expert knowledge of Nuke, including scripting, templates, 2D/3D compositing, and render pass (AOV) management.

  • Strong understanding of the 3D production pipeline (Lighting, FX, Rendering, etc.).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to mentor and support others.

  • Strong eye for image quality, storytelling, and visual continuity.

  • Ability to manage a small team and communicate clearly and constructively.

  • Fluency in English; French is an asset.

Optional Skills

  • Familiarity with Python, TCL, Gizmo creation, and Blink Script.

  • Knowledge of Deep Compositing and/or stereoscopic compositing.

  • Experience with ShotGrid or similar production tracking tools.

  • Comfortable working in a Linux/Unix environment.

Additional Information:

The person in this role will work closely with our Paris studio in a bilingual environment, as well as with international partners, talent, and clients. They will regularly interact with non-French-speaking stakeholders across various productions and strategic communications, in order to present and promote the creative and technical strengths of Mikros Animation on a global scale.
