Diet Office Clerk - NMCP - Full-Time - Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We seek applicants for a full-time Diet Office Clerk who adheres to MTF objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control procedures. Acts as liaison between the Nutrition Staff/Support Department and inpatients and ward staff.

 

Applicants must have the availability to work Sunday - Saturday, 4:30 AM - 6:00 PM, 35 hours per week.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Maintain all required records, reports, and statistics in accordance with MTF standard operating procedures.

  • Gather data according to prescribed methods for use in evaluating patient food service
  • Evaluate patient meal test trays for accuracy in accepted standard levels and provide recommendations, as necessary. Participate and conduct meal rounds, tray line observation, and patient opinion surveys, as necessary
  • Provide pertinent information to the appropriate dietitian concerning unusual or inadequate patient menu selections
  • Generate, arrange, and verify selective menu packages for distribution and collection to all hospital wards
  • Ensure patients on wards receive a meal tray adhering to dietary restrictions as ordered by the physicians
  • Analyze and correct returned menus based on the data from the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and Computrition computer system, hospital diet manual, and patient dietary preferences
  • Maintain accurate and current patient information obtained via phone calls, taped messages, ward diet sheets, patient ward rounds, and phone log messages
  • Document the number of trays sent to patients each meal for departmental statistical reports; file official documentation on diet orders and diet changes according to hospital and departmental requirements
  • Inventory, order, and maintain all diet office forms
  • Process bulk and individual patient nourishments based on par levels
  • Prepare tube-feeding formulas for patients
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE: 

The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to calculate the amount of tube-feeding formula to be prepared based on the rate and concentration ordered by the physician
  • Ability to function under pressure and maintain composure while working with frequent interruptions
  • Must have organization skills, basic mathematical skills, and be able to operate a computer; requires typing proficiency and familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to patients and ward staff
  • Must have some proficiency and working knowledge with Windows-based software and maintain computer access at all times


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

Performing the duties of this job requires near visual acuity, the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds, and gross manipulation. Additionally, the employee:

  • Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form.  
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily working in an office setting. The temperature and noise level in the work environment will vary.
