This position works in the Risk Management organizational unit. This is routine security patrol and public contact work, on an assigned shift, responsible for the general security of a City facility and the adjoining parking facilities. An incumbent patrols assigned areas; receives, greets and directs visitors to intended destination, and provides routine information to same. An incumbent exercises independence of action and judgement in greeting the public, and in deciding how to react to emergencies and disruptive incidents within established procedures. An incumbent is subject to minimal supervision, as there is no immediate supervisor on site however if problems arise, a supervisor is available through telephone contact. Work is reviewed by a supervisor for conformance to established procedures and tact and effectiveness in dealing with the public. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a Basic Security Training (BST) Certificate (Justice Institute of BC or approved Security Training School), plus some related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Sound knowledge of security industry standards, regulations, policies and procedures and of the regulations and rules governing the work performed. Working knowledge of the organization of the City, the general functions of its departments, and the nature of services performed. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, public, and law enforcement; to act quickly, properly and calmly in emergency situations and to understand and execute oral and written instructions. A Security Worker Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Shifts and hours may vary between Monday to Sunday, 0600-1400, 1400-2200 and 2200-0600.
