About the Department

Business Project Manager I - Transit

In this position, you will serve as a project manager for transit facilities projects within the Public Works – Transit department at the City of Colorado Springs. You’ll oversee day-to-day operations, manage asset maintenance, and ensure the successful delivery of facilities-related projects. This role involves cross-functional collaboration, technical expertise, and a strong focus on compliance, budgeting, and customer service.

This is a special at-will position funded by an FTA grant received by Transit annually.

Work Location: 1015 Transit Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80903
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Annual Salary: $66,041.92 - $79,282.02

As a Business Project Manager I, you will:

  • Direct, coordinate, and monitor the progress and implementation of assigned Transit projects and contracts.
  • Manage project budgets, monitor costs, and forecast future expenditures.
  • Act as a technical expert in facilities management, offering guidance to managers and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Create statements of work and cost estimates for procurement solicitations.
  • Track and manage the Transit Facilities Maintenance Plan work order system.
  • Support fixed asset management and disposal processes.
  • Oversee service contracts and ensure vendor compliance.
  • Collaborate with contracting and finance teams to secure contracts, SLAs, and purchase orders.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints.
  • Manage ADA accessibility improvements and ensure compliance.
  • Facilitate problem-solving activities and engage appropriate resources to reach solutions.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure timely and budget-conscious project completion.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of budget management and implementation.
  • Knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, structural, and plumbing systems.
  • Familiarity with asset management practices and ADA requirements.
  • Ability to create scopes of work and cost estimates for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to troubleshoot facility maintenance issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.

Position Duties

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business management, project management, or a related area of study
  • One (1) year of full-time, professional experience in project management, facilities management, operations management, or a related field
