Position Overview:
Beam is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Sciences & Technology Co-op to join our dynamic Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MS&T) team from January through June 2026. The Beam MS&T team provides technical expertise for the transfer and production of mRNA and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) at the RTP manufacturing facility. The MS&T team applies a deep understanding of science and engineering principles to translate processes from development to GMP manufacturing. The team is accountable for process technology transfer, process troubleshooting to manufacturing, deviation investigational leadership, support for in-process testing, and leadership of all manufacturing site based technical improvement initiatives. The MS&T Co-op will gain experience navigating real world projects in technical support for GMP manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of their mentor, the MS&T Co-op will support the following:
- Start-up non-GMP testing lab at the Beam Durham site for LNP programs.
- Start-up of analytical equipment for DLS, UV spectroscopy, and UPLC/HPLC testing methods.
- Receive and implement analytical methods transferred from the Beam Analytical Research & Development (ARD) group.
- Author SOPs and/or work instructions for analytical methods.
- Execute analytical testing of in-process intermediates during GMP manufacturing, which may require second shift work hours at times.
- Develop a project plan, define objectives and desired outcomes, engage and collaborate with cross-functional partners and stakeholders, and meet timelines.
Qualifications:
- Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or related field.
- Must be entering their third or fourth year (Bachelor’s) or currently pursuing a Master’s degree.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting college or university program and maintain their student status throughout the duration of the co-op to be eligible.
- Prior industry internship or academic lab-based research in analytical testing methods is preferred.
- The candidate should have a solid academic foundation in engineering, science, and mathematics coursework (examples: biology/chemistry/biochemistry, engineering principles, biochemical/bioengineering, molecular biology, etc.).
- This role will function within a hybrid (partially remote, partially onsite) working environment and requires a self-motivated individual.
