Job Purpose:
The Employee Health Coordinator, RN, works under the direction of the Executive Director, Talent Management and in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer to ensure that regulatory standards and requirements related to Employee and Occupational Health are met throughout the organization.
Essential Functions:
Deploys components of the Employee Health Program
- Reviews and applies existing regulations, standards, and /or guidelines of applicable professional organizations, regulatory and governmental agencies.
- Recommends new or revised practices or procedures based on currently accepted, evidence-based strategies.
- Reviews and applies pertinent information from current scientific literature and publications.
- Incorporates age specific information/infection prevention measures into workers'/volunteers' care.
Administers periodic evaluations for workers
- Coordinates the tuberculosis screening & testing program for workers and volunteers
- Requests and interprets tuberculosis screening and test results
- Performs respirator fit tests
- Requests lab and x-rays per protocol
- Consults with department leader
- Makes referrals to healthcare providers
- Administers immunizations
- Manages the annual Flu Vaccination program, working with key stakeholders to order, deploy the delivery and administration of the vaccines, manage the receipt of completed vaccine forms and exemption declination forms and enters all relevant data into the designated online platform. Works in collaboration with Talent Management to manage worker non-compliance, as needed.
Job-related injuries, exposures, illnesses (industrial injury)
- Provides minor care to workers injured or exposed on duty. Coordinates initial higher level of care for workers injured or exposed on duty, as necessary.
- Orders lab and/or x-ray
- Refers to healthcare provider, when necessary
- Collects information for follow-up investigation
- Provides counsel worker regarding prevention and safe choices
- Administers palliative treatment for minor illnesses for workers who are on duty
- Arranges for post exposure prophylaxis when necessary
- Enters information into to Washington’s Department of Labor & Industries platform for management for workers' compensation claim processing for all industrial injuries. Provides support to workers during their recovery journey, obtaining updates, reviewing restrictions, monitoring follow-up appointments and working collaboratively with the workers care provider and their assigned L&I Vocational Service Specialist
- Reviews all Activity Prescription Forms (APFs) issued to injured workers. Discuss the worker patient’s role in their recovery and establish a recovery support plan
- Reviews information provided to determine a worker's fitness for duty, when necessary
- Maintains the Sharps Injury Log
- Maintains the recordkeeping of the OSHA 300 log for work-related (industrial) injuries and illnesses that result in medical treatment beyond first aid
Early return to work program management
- Reviews work releases for all workers returning to work in excess of 3 missed shifts due to personal illness or personal injury. Validates return to full-duty.
- Reviews all Activity Prescription Forms (APFs) issued to injured workers recovering from an industrial injury. Collaborate with department leader to provide light or transitional duty to the worker while they recover from their industrial injury. Generate the modified job description supporting the APF and generate the industrial injury job offer.
- Track all workers transitional and light duty work assignments in collaboration with department leaders.
Post offer assessments
- Prepares pre-employment drug screen orders, coordinates collection with on-site and off-site labs and checks for drug test results
- Reviews health history questionnaire and immunization record
- Performs physical demands assessment, if required
- Coordinates the tuberculosis screening & testing, as needed
- Reviews respirator medical questionnaire and performs pre-employment respirator fit tests
- Obtains lab specimen based on results of health history and review of immunization record
- Assesses the results of the assessment, lab, x-rays to determine fitness for duty and/or need for referral to healthcare provider
- Notifies Talent Management of worker's status following the assessment (i.e., cleared to work, on hold, denied)
- Offers the worker the family violence screening tool to complete
Workplace Violence Prevention (WPV) program
- Provides primary oversight of the WPV program. Collaborates with key stakeholders in creating and maintaining a written plan to identify how security will be provided to workers, conduct risk assessments to determine potential for violence and provide strategies for prevention and establish a response plan that is enacted when incidents occur.
- Work with all department leaders to educate workers on the importance of incident reporting and importance of participating in interdepartmental task forces and committees to promote sharing across interdisciplinary fields
- Perform as Chair of the Workplace Violence Prevention sub-committee with members from Talent Management, Patient Safety, Security, Quality, Nursing – Clinic/Hospital, Facilities, Physicians, etc. Ad-hoc members from IS, Marketing, Patient Access, Dietary, Finance and Pharmacy are encouraged.
- Investigate all incident reports and work with the department leader to ensure risk mitigation occurs, after action tasks are generated and tracking and trending occurs to assess for program improvements.
- Collaborate with Quality to ensure accurate reporting to the WSHA on a monthly basis.
Health and Safety Advocate
- Reports identified opportunities for improvement that could impact worker health and safety
- Assists with follow-up action plan development and implementation
- Serves as a resource to workers for interpreting infection prevention procedures and employee health practices and for referrals to the Employee Assistance Program provider
- Informs workers who report family violence of options and refers to the Director over Safety & Security, if necessary
- Manages the medical components of the fitness for duty policy in collaboration with designated physicians, management and Talent Management
- Serves as a member of the Infection Control Committee, the Safety Committee, and any other committees, as assigned.
Requirements:
• Current WA State RN License
• 3 years of experience as a registered nurse, required. Preferred, 3 years of experience in Acute Care/Medical-Surgical, Emergency Services or Occupational Health.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse – Specialist (COHN-S) upon hire or must be obtained with two years of employment or transfer into the role.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes and communicable diseases as related to a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, and have hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone. The employee is often required to sit for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arm. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus sufficient to operate computer systems.
