About the Department
This position is responsible for performing preventive and responsive maintenance on city buildings.
Position Duties
- Performs preventive and responsive maintenance on city buildings; inspects buildings to determine maintenance and repair needs.
- Performs scheduled maintenance on city buildings.
- Participates in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other building maintenance.
- Maintains and repairs building structures.
- Works with contractors; provides contractor access to controlled areas.
- Repairs and replaces locks.
- Maintains grounds at city hall; mows grass and controls weeds; removes leaves, brush, and litter.
- Constructs, installs, and relocates furniture.
- Purchases materials and supplies.
- Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
- Operates light and heavy equipment and hand and power tools.
- Assists with snow removal operations.
- Assists in cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Assists in setting up facilities and grounds for special events.
- Assists with custodial maintenance as needed.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of building maintenance principles and practices.
- Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of carpentry principles.
- Knowledge of custodial maintenance principles, practices, tools, and chemicals.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the use of heavy and light construction equipment.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
Other Qualifications
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Facilities Maintenance Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include building codes and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related technical duties. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the work.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of city buildings. Successful performance in this position contributes to the efficient and effective maintenance of those buildings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma or GED.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Wyoming for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
