Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI to deter our adversaries. In the 21st century, conflict moves at algorithmic speed and foresight equals firepower. Our agentic AI is purpose-built to compete with China—from cross-Strait conflict to gray zone coercion. Trained on the most mission-relevant datasets in defense, our technology models adversary behavior, simulates campaigns, and recommends the best course of action to decision makers. Our AI systems are some of the most trusted in the industry and actively used on the front lines of the Indo-Pacific to keep the peace and save lives.
Exceptional technology starts with exceptional people. Vannevar is a small agile team combining world-class engineers with veteran strategists who bring deep expertise in defense and tradecraft. We’re building a company defined by mission impact, user empathy, and disciplined growth. In just three years, we grew from $3M to $80M in ARR, achieved early profitability, and reached unicorn status—proving that disruption doesn’t require an ego, and staying power doesn’t mean standing still.
About the role
The sensing team at Vannevar Labs is building a new hardware product that supports a widespread need for low-cost, attritable, and easily coordinated sensing. We’re looking for an experienced signal processor who can contribute to the groups effort in developing direction finding, localization, and sensor fusion capabilities. This will support the team’s efforts to build an agile and intelligent signal detection and characterization platform to one that can provide broader distributed understanding and actionable insights to anomalies and detections in the RF spectrum. You will be responsible for doing the preliminary prototype of these capabilities as well as the refinement of them through operational testing and evaluation. You will also be responsible for key design decision and tradeoffs required for implementing a real time system with an embedded development team. This is a hybrid role based in Seattle (3 days/week in office).
What you'll do
- Develop new methods to perform direction finding and signal localization algorithms on low cost and hardware with atypical error models
- Develop algorithms to fuse distributed sensor data into a common, high-fidelity representation of key aspects of the RF environment and determine key system tradeoffs to mange implementation complexity, fusion error and edge system cost
- Collaborate with cross disciplinary engineering teams to integrate developed algorithms and models into production hardware and software
- Define key antenna, timing, calibration and RF requirements for hardware development
- Be a hands-on technical contributor as part of test and evaluation of the developed capabilities,
- Be responsible for tests and experimentations to validate the capability
- Travel up to 20% of time to meet with internal stakeholders and experimentation events
What we look for
- 8+ years working with digital signal processing implementation, wireless communications and detection and estimation methods
- 5+ years developing direction finding, MIMO processing and dynamic tracking and filtering algorithms
- 3+ years supporting design and development of multiple RF sensors or communications systems
- 3+ years developing optimized processing code in python, C++ or embedded development environments
- 3+ years of signal processing software test and evaluation using hardware in the loop, over the air or other non-software simulation based capability evaluation
- Ability to work with small teams to balance complex design and implementation issues across a diverse team
- Experience developing distributed processing system standards and developing APIs to support sensor fusion algorithms
What we offer
The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $210,000 + equity + 401K match. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, relevant education, and/or training.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Unlimited PTO including competitive vacation and holiday schedules
