The 3D Studio Area Technician is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, safety, and organization of all 3D instructional areas, including two woodshops, a metal shop, a plaster shop, and related classroom/studio spaces. The technician reports directly to the Chair of Fine Arts and works under the daily supervision of the Sculpture and 3D Foundation instructors.
This is a non-teaching, academic-year position scheduled for 26 hours per week:
Monday–Thursday, 4:00–9:00 p.m.
Sunday, 12:00–6:00 p.m.

Essential Job Functions
3D Facilities Management
Follow cleaning and organization procedures established by full-time 3D faculty
Maintain clean and organized workstations, tools, materials, and safety equipment to ensure studios are class- and student-ready
Ensure all tools and equipment are in safe working condition
Perform routine maintenance and coordinate repairs as needed for hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, woodworking tools, and other studio machinery
Monitor and track inventory of materials and tools needed for 3D studio classes
Assist with receiving, loading, and unloading of supplies and equipment
Work with faculty and students to coordinate safe and organized project storage
Material Preparation
Support Sculpture and 3D Foundation instructors by preparing class materials as requested
Research vendors, pricing, and specifications for tools, materials, and equipment
Coordinate with vendors regarding delivery or pickup of materials
Open Studio & Safety Oversight
Maintain regular open studio hours for student access
Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Provide technical support and guidance to students using studio tools and equipment
Other Responsibilities
Participate in all-employee meetings, trainings, and events
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
BFA in a 3D-related discipline (e.g., sculpture, woodworking, metalworking, or industrial design) preferred
Minimum of 1 year of experience working in an academic or professional studio environment preferred
Technical and Safety Competencies
Proficient in the use and maintenance of woodworking equipment, metal fabrication tools, hand tools, and other studio machinery
Strong understanding of safety protocols, PPE usage, and emergency procedures in workshop environments
Ability to perform basic repairs and coordinate maintenance for studio equipment
Studio Support & Coordination
Experience preparing materials, coordinating supply needs, and working with vendors
Ability to manage inventory, receive deliveries, and maintain a clean and efficient shop environment
Communication & Collaboration
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff
Comfortable providing demonstrations or technical support to students unfamiliar with shop equipment
Physical Requirements
Must be able to safely handle tools and equipment and to lift up to 50 lbs. Greater weights require assistance.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, grasping, and fine motor use required in a workshop setting
Comfortable working in studio conditions with dust, noise, and varied materials
