JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Ski or Snowboard Instructor
FLSA: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Snowsports School Director, Snowsports School Director Assistant Manager and Lesson Supervisors, or Treehouse Supervisor
SUMMARY: Snowsports School Instructors not only teach ski and snowboard lessons, they help develop new skiers and riders, improve the skills of current skiers and riders, and most importantly, they get to spread their passion of skiing and snowboarding to our guests. Successful instructors will be outgoing and passionate about the sport while delivering excellent customer service to our guests. Instructors should possess good communication skills and solid skiing/riding ability. Prior teaching experience is not required. Wintergreen Resort is a member school of PSIA/AASI.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Wintergreen requires instructors to make a minimum commitment to the resort of 75 hours teaching in a given season (translates to approximately 12+ full working days).
- Conducts duties in a professional manner whenever on property or away at events.
- Assists in the training of fellow instructors through on-going educational clinics held weekly throughout ski/snowboard season.
- Attend weekly staff meetings with available staff, supervisors, and office assistants, typically held prior to 9:15 am line-up on select days, or prior to morning registration at the Treehouse.
- Assists snowsports reservation process by referring guest and reservation questions to administrative staff. Instructors are not permitted to book their own lesson reservations.
- In consultation with Ski Area Management, ensures compliance with rules and regulations of regulatory agencies and insurance carriers. Supports departmental initiatives to develop and promote cross trained associates.
- Insures that all staff, work and guest areas present a clean, neat, and professional appearance.
- If choosing to work at the Treehouse, candidates will progress with the same group of children in a full or half-day setting, and having parent conferences at the end of each lesson, where they go over each child’s Progress Card.
Job Availability: December 2025-March 2026
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to ski or ride in a proficient manner with ability to navigate at least the beginner slopes at Wintergreen.
- Should be knowledgeable and experienced with the many aspects of ski school operations.
- Supervisory skills, motivational skills and leadership qualities are important.
- Must be able to tolerate long hours on the job, both on skis/snowboards and moving around the resort.
- Wintergreen encourages instructor development and rewards instructors by recognizing PSIA/AASI Certification levels and years of service at Wintergreen.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to move around the resort in inclement weather and ski/snowboard all terrain.
- Must provide own skiing and snowboarding equipment, gloves, black pants, goggles and under layers. A uniform Jacket is provided for days/hours worked.
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds.
