Job Description:Job Summary
Maintain a high level of reliability for all SCPA containerized cargo handling equipment.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Provide timely, reliable, and cost-effective service for all SCPA containerized cargo handling equipment.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to all SCPA containerized cargo handling equipment in an efficient and proper manner.
- Maintain adequate technical knowledge and skills to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all SCPA containerized cargo handling equipment.
- Assists as necessary with the installation, testing, and acceptance of new or modified containerized cargo handling equipment.
- Train and mentor trainees
- Perform assigned tasks in compliance with applicable safety, hazardous material, and environmental policies, rules, and regulations.
- Document all work activities performed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Complete all payroll-related records in a timely and proper manner.
- Observe all SCPA safety practices and procedures.
- Practice good housekeeping both during and at the completion of all tasks.
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Assume the essential job responsibilities of Mechanic/Electrician Team Leader, HLM or Maintenance Team Leader, Inland Ports as necessary.
- If assigned to a SCPA Inland Port, provide routine preventive maintenance for and the initial response to problems with all SCPA facilities and non-containerized cargo handling equipment.

- Functional supervision of trainees during training.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Completion of the Industrial Electrician Initial Training Program.
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in the Heavy Lift Maintenance Department.
- A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required to operate a Ports Authority owned licensed motor vehicle.
Skills and Abilities
- Interpersonal skills for liaison with coworkers and internal customers.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic reading and writing skills in the English language.
- Technical reading and writing skills in the English language.
- Basic computer skills.
- Willing to work flexible schedules that may be in excess of 8 hours per day and include early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Must be reachable when not at work (e.g., have a telephone in the home, have a cell phone).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to stand and/or sit for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 15 ft. tall numerous times per day.
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push and pull for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
- Ability to lift and/or carry items of not more than 50 pounds for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
- Ability to lift items overhead several times per day.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights greater than 250 feet.
- Vision is required to analyze and process various forms and documents utilized within the framework of performing assigned tasks. Must not be color blind.
- Hearing is required to adequately perform verbal, telecommunication, and radio communications and to recognize audible alarms and warning devices.
- Ability to verbally communicate clearly with vendors, customers, co-workers, etc.
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard and view a computer monitor screen.
- Must be capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat, reflective vests, hearing protection, fall protection).
- Must be capable of working in small (i.e., confining) spaces.
- Must be capable of using small hand tools (e.g., screw drivers, wrenches) and power tools (e.g., drills, impact wrenches).
