About the Job:

Position is responsible for performing skilled craftwork activities in any of the following areas of carpentry, concrete, and steel work and for serving as a lead to skilled and/or unskilled construction workers in the absence of a Job Superintendent.  Duties include laying out areas for footings or walls, monitoring and assigning work to employees; coordinating, organizing, and overseeing construction projects and purchasing materials in the absence of a superintendent; operating and overseeing equipment operation; maintaining equipment; inspecting work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and adherence to work schedules. The Foreman is the fourth level of an eight-level construction series.   The Job Foreman is distinguished from the Skilled Construction Worker by its responsibility for coordinating tasks within a project and serving as a lead to other Skilled Construction Workers, Construction Workers, and Laborers.  The Foreman is distinguished from the Job Superintendent which has full supervisory authority and responsibility for determining means and process for overall project accomplishment. Responsible for supporting and promoting DSC culture through effective Leadership, Management, and Accountability (LMA).

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as a lead to Skilled Construction Workers, Construction Workers, and Laborers by assigning and monitoring work of employees.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and organizes construction crew tasks in the following categories: carpentry, concrete, steel & millwright.
  • In absence of a job superintendent, ensures projects are on schedule and completed by working with subcontractors and ensuring crews have equipment, purchases materials and maintains adequate inventories.
  • Facilitate effective communication of project changes, goals, and objectives by coordinating and/or leading client meetings.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and adherence to work schedules.
  • Performs skilled craftwork activities in the areas of carpentry, concrete, and steel & millwright on projects where foreman duties are not required.
  • Maintains the schedule of self-performed work and pushes crew. 
  • Provides input for three-week look-ahead schedules to deliver accurate expectations to the project team. 
  • Operates and maintains equipment and ensures preventative maintenance is completed by scheduling lubrications, mechanical adjustments, washes, and mechanical work.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support project and organizational success.

  • Reading blueprints and engineering plans.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet the company’s Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) standards. 

 

Education/Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
  • Four-six years of construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above.
      

Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequent physical activity like climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, and using hands.
  • Work may involve exposure to mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, dust, chemicals, oils, harsh weather, poor lighting, tight spaces, and loud noise.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally (with team assistance) and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
