About the Department

JOB SUMMARY

The Custodial Assistant will provide essential support to the facilities team by helping maintain cleanliness and hygiene across campus buildings. This position involves performing routine cleaning tasks, assisting with event setup, and ensuring that campus spaces remain safe, sanitary, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.

This is a part-time position of no more than 20 hours per week. Preference will be given to students who qualify for Federal Work Study.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job description satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and other campus areas.  
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and surfaces.  
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners as needed.  
  • Restock paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and other supplies in restrooms.  
  • Assist with floor care, including waxing and buffing as needed.  
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.  
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with event setup, including arranging furniture and equipment as required.  
  • Help with minor maintenance tasks such as changing lightbulbs and reporting damages. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Custodial Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and safe chemical handling.  
  • Ability to operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and mops.  
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all areas are thoroughly cleaned.  
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently while following assigned cleaning schedules.  
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a current student at Klamath Community College.

Other Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently.   
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and repetitive motions such as sweeping or mopping.  
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and reach in order to clean various areas.  
  • Ability to work in different indoor environments, including restrooms and classrooms.
