This position will line produce for broadcast when needed, but its primary focus will be developing and producing original shows, segments, specials, anchor-led packages, and documentaries for our streaming platform, WUSA9+. You’ll work across formats — from daily news and franchise pieces to investigative projects and live event coverage — delivering high-quality, visually engaging content that connects with audiences on every screen.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce live daily newscasts as needed — stacking, writing, timing, and managing rundowns with precision.
  • Create compelling streaming programs and segments for WUSA9+, curating content from broadcast, digital, and social platforms while developing original material.
  • Write crisp, conversational scripts that resonate with viewers and maintain clarity across platforms.
  • Showcase stories creatively with graphics, teases, live elements, and interactive anchor/reporter moments to keep viewers engaged.
  • Collaborate with reporters, anchors, and producers on long-form investigative stories, documentaries, and franchise segments.
  • Assist with live special event coverage including election night, inaugurations, town halls, and major breaking news.
  • Maintain strong editorial judgment, accuracy, fairness, and context in all content.
  • React quickly to breaking news, updating and re-stacking content for both broadcast and streaming.
  • Participate in planning for both daily coverage and long-term projects.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a newscast or content producer in a professional newsroom.
  • Strong skills in stacking, writing, timing, and editing for live television.
  • Ability to develop and package content specifically for streaming and digital platforms.
  • Creativity in visual storytelling and production design.
  • Understanding of long-form storytelling and investigative workflows.
  • Experience working in the field on high-profile live productions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and talent.
  • Proficiency in newsroom software, video editing systems, and graphics tools.
  • Solid news judgment and an instinct for compelling, relevant storytelling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.
  • Experience producing in a major or medium market.
  • Knowledge of the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia news landscape a plus.
