Senior Semiconductor Technology Development Wafer Level Reliability (WLR) Engineer
The Senior WLR Engineer is an experienced technical expert responsible for developing, executing, and analyzing Wafer Level Reliability tests for advanced semiconductor devices. This role involves identifying and mitigating reliability risks throughout technology development and product life cycle. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of intrinsic semiconductor failure mechanisms and works cross-functionally to drive improvements in device performance, process quality, and overall product reliability. The WLR engineer will be part of the Diodes, Inc. worldwide technology development organization and will work with a team of industry experts designing and developing analog semiconductor process technologies for Diodes products for both internal and external production. Work location will either be the Diodes, Inc. fabrication site in South Portland, Maine (USA) or other offices situated throughout the world.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement WLR methodologies: Create and execute accelerated stress tests for new CMOS, interconnect, and other semiconductor technologies according to industry standards like JEDEC.
- Analyze failure mechanisms: Conduct in-depth analysis of reliability issues such as hot carrier injection (HCI), electromigration (EM), bias temperature instability (BTI), and stress-induced voiding (SIV).
- Build reliability models: Develop and use mathematical and statistical models to correlate test structure data with actual product reliability and project device lifetime.
- Drive root cause analysis (RCA): Lead or support RCA activities for reliability failures, coordinating with process integration, device engineering, and failure analysis teams.
- Guide technology development: Partner with R&D and process development teams to provide early feedback on new technology nodes and influence design rules to enhance reliability.
- Support high-volume manufacturing (HVM): Provide expert support for manufacturing issues, including process conversions and material excursions, by assessing reliability risk and recommending material disposition.
- Maintain quality standards: Ensure test methodologies and data analysis conform to relevant industry standards and best practices.
- Provide technical leadership: Act as a subject matter expert, mentoring junior engineers and communicating complex reliability issues and risk assessments to cross-functional teams and management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field. Equivalent industry experience would also be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in semiconductor device reliability, with a strong focus on wafer-level testing and characterization.
- Experience with high voltage analog semiconductor technologies, such as 10-120V BCDMOS.
- Background in process integration, device reliability, or technology bring-up in a development fab environment.
- Publication or patent record in device reliability fields.
- Familiarity with JEDEC and ESDA standards, and participation in industry working groups.
- Technical skills
- Expertise in semiconductor intrinsic reliability failure mechanisms.
- Proficiency in operating and programming automated wafer-level test equipment and parametric analyzers.
- Strong background in statistical analysis, including statistical process control (SPC), Weibull analysis, and life-data modeling.
- Experience with statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python or R.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and data interpretation skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills for preparing reports and presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage priorities in a dynamic environment, and work effectively with cross-functional teams
