Screw Machine Apprentice/Operator
1st Shift, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Monday - Friday)
Hourly rate $22.00 - $29.00/hour DOE
Ability to work overtime during the week and Saturdays as needed

RESPONSIBILITY:
- Operates one or more, typically two, six spindle screw machines.
JOB DUTIES:
- Learn the fundamental operation of a Screw Machine.
- Learn to read layout to determine proper tooling needed and adjust tools to bring parts into conformance with print.
- Inspects tools and compares to tool layout verifying all tools and tool holders using various gauges.
- Replaces worn tools and sharpens cut off blades.
- Changes collets, bushings, and feed fingers in stock feeding mechanism. Gears, stops, and cams (if necessary).
- Ensure proper material and stock size for job.
- Loads bar stock into bar feed mechanism.
- Operate machines and inspect parts in accordance with Quality Procedures.
- Verify conformance of parts to specifications using micrometers, dial indicators, and optical comparator.
- Adjusts tools to bring parts into conformance with print, submits first piece for inspection and starts machine.
- Program edits, indicating tooling and fixtures, and troubleshooting minor problems and tooling issues.
- Notify lead person of variation in dimension, if tooling is getting low or if job is not producing.
- Weigh parts accurately.
- Document all information needed to run job.
- Empty and spin chips.
- Perform daily and routine preventive maintenance functions.
- Keep machines and area clean and orderly.
EDUCATION / SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read blueprints and use calipers and micrometers.
- Prior lathe experience preferred.
