About the Department
The BBAY is a backbone organization that coordinates the efforts of partners to build a system of high-quality, accessible, and fully resourced opportunities that address systemic disparities in graduation, pathways to college and career and youth safety and wellbeing. The Alliance is a joint powers agreement between the City of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County, and the school districts of Osseo, Brooklyn Center, Robbinsdale and Anoka-Hennepin. Ex Officio Members include: Hennepin Technical College & North Hennepin Community College.
The Alliance is seeking Reimagine Black Youth Mental Health Initiative Youth Interns to work closely with Alliance staff in expanding our efforts to positively impact Black youth mental health and wellbeing through narrative-shifting work, ecosystem strengthening work, and policy, systems, and practice change.
This is a seasonal position with a flexible schedule. The Reimagine Black Youth Mental Health Initiative Youth Intern will be an integral team member, whose purpose will contribute to the overall success of programming in 2025. The Youth Intern will need to be creative, self-aware, able to build genuine and meaningful relationships with diverse people, and comfortable with taking direction and initiative to complete work in a high-quality and timely manner. The schedule will be flexible but will require occasional evening and weekend availability.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Internships are grant funded through Hennepin County and the project work for the Reimagine Black Youth Mental Health Initiative will continue through the end of December 2025 with potential for ongoing employment.

Position Duties
Assist with Community Outreach and Engagement Efforts
- Assist in reaching out to and building relationships with young people and other community stakeholders across the Brooklyn's to inform them of and partner with them for activities related to Reimagine
- Recruit for and attend Youth Space meetings for the Initiative which occur two times each month as planned by the team (will take place in person)
- Assist with and contribute to social media, flyer and apparel design, a monthly newsletter, and the planning/carrying out of events aimed at engaging and energizing community around Black youth mental health
- Play a key role in making Youth Space, activities, and events feel welcoming, engaging, and unique to the diversity of Black culture and the work of the Initiative
- Serve as a model of leadership for youth and adults to inspire public confidence in our work
- Work alongside Alliance staff to coordinate work and ensure youth leadership and input throughout implementation
- Provide youth voice and perspective on suicide prevention materials produced by Hennepin County
Minimum Qualifications
Education
No education requirements
Experience
- Age 14 or older
- Previous experience working with multi-cultural individuals, groups, and organizations
- Desire to strengthen mental health and wellbeing with Black youth
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Organizational skills and the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Desire to strengthen the connectedness and coordination within the Brooklyns (Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center communities)
- Self-directed and independent
- Ability to self-motivate in order to accomplish tasks
- Ability to organize schedule, tasks, and timelines
- Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction
- Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward Continuous Improvement
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center and familiarity with the community’s assets and resources
- Experience performing community relations/outreach work with people of color, renters, immigrants and other community members who are typically underrepresented in government affairs

Anticipated Schedule: This is a seasonal job with a flexible schedule. The position holder can expect to work between 5-15 hours/week. Desired starting date is September 24th 2025 through December 29th 2025.
Payrate: $17.00/hour
