Summary
The IoT Technician provides support to the IoT / SRD / Fleet Department for the overall configuration, maintenance, and health of Rain for Rent’s telematic and IoT systems. The role contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and is expected to make suggestions to drive efficiency. The individual will work closely with the product line managers, engineers, technicians, and branch management to ensure optimal functionality and governance of the telematic/IoT solutions; will analyze solution data to determine corrective actions needed in support of data quality expectations and reporting deliverables; and will be the primary point of contact to provide HMI training and escalated support to end users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for IoT device and HMI project commissioning (users, parameters, alerts, alarms), training, troubleshooting, and technical support. Direct product support.
- Monitor and measure all telematics/IoT solutions’ health and performance (such as inconsistent cellular connectivity and non-powered asset tracking). Identify and facilitate corrective actions for performance while interacting with appropriate parties both internally and externally. Technical Troubleshooting.
- Run daily/weekly/monthly telematics/IoT “health” reports and analyze the data for failure trends, customer damage, equipment maintenance and service.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks and monitor behavior to ensure the telematic/IoT solution’s reliability and accuracy. Physical Installs / Troubleshooting.
- Work with Product Line Managers to Coordinate the replacement of non-functioning telematic/IoT devices. Support branches in sourcing repair parts and making repairs. Coordinate replacement of CoPilot, TLG, and other IoT devices with the product line manager.
- Liaise with telematic/IoT solution vendors, product line manager, and OEMs for installations, procurement, support, and updates (including firmware and software updates).
- Responsible for assisting branches with the commissioning or configuration of devices and solutions.
- Administer authorized user access for internal Rain for Rent colleagues to the individual telematic/IoT solutions as needed for commissioning or configuration purposes.
- Responsible for HMI training and support to branch personnel, shared services, and our customer’s users.
- Work with product line managers and branch teams to identify telematic/IoT hardware needs, when applicable.
- Recommend and initiate improvements to our processes or the digital solutions for operational efficiencies and data collection. This is including and not limited to maintenance schedules, fleet specifications, fleet guides, reports, alerts, and notifications.
- Other responsibilities as assigned in support of the operation.
Education and/or Experience:
An associate degree or technical certification in electronics or information technology; A bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering is beneficial but not required. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in IoT support or related experience and/or training is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered. At least 2 years of telematic, rental industry and/or construction equipment experience with proficient comprehension of telematics hardware, software, and device installation (analog & CAN/Mod Bus) is desired. Experience in computer science, information technology, engineering, logistics, or rental industry is desired.
- Solid understanding of basic telematics data integration principles.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex data.
- Self-motivated, meticulous, and organized with the ability to prioritize and track multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Must be detail-oriented, accurate and have basic knowledge of accounting and finance concepts.
- Persuasive communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to train and support colleagues and customers of different abilities and backgrounds.
- Proficient computer skills with a focus on data management.
- Excellent organizational skills and customer service skills.
- Excellent written and spoken language skills with ability to develop processes, policies, and procedures.
- Above average skill with PC based software required to successfully perform in role
