Description

Seeking a highly organized and proactive Materials Manager to support our manufacturing process.  This multi-functional role is responsible for ensuring timely procurement of raw materials and components, maintaining accurate inventory levels and supporting shipping and fulfillment processes.  The ideal candidate will bring experience in supply chain or warehouse operations in a manufacturing environment and thrive in a fast-paced, detail-critical setting.


Key Responsibilities


Purchasing / Procurement:

  • Source and purchase raw materials, components, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) supplies to support manufacturing schedules.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers; evaluate vendor performance on pricing, quality, and lead times.
  • Issue purchase orders, track order status, and follow up on late or backordered items.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to forecast material needs and minimize production downtime.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reorder points to ensure material availability and reduce excess stock.

Inventory Control:

  • Maintain accurate inventory records using ERP or inventory management systems.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and full physical inventory audits; investigate and resolve variances.
  • Implement and uphold inventory control best practices such as FIFO, safety stock and location management.
  • Analyze inventory data to identify tends, obsolete materials, or opportunities to reduce carrying costs.
  • Coordinate with production team to align inventory with production demand.

Pick and Pack (Shipping / Fulfillment):

  • Accurately pick and pack finished goods, spare parts, or kits for customer orders or internal transfers.
  • Prepare shipping labels, packing lists, and required documentation (e.g., BOLs, customs forms).
  • Coordinate outbound shipments with freight carriers, couriers, and logistics partners.
  • Ensure packaging meets safety and quality standards for industrial or commercial delivery.

Supervisory:

  • Directly supervisor the warehouse team.
  • Assist team and ensure works is completed during peak times and/or during employee absences.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business or related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in purchasing, inventory control and shipping in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with raw material and component specifications is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient with ERP or MRP systems; IQMS experience a plus.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word and Inventory tracking tools.
  • Familiar with shipping software and label systems (UPS, FedEx, etc...)
  • Ability to interpret bills of materials (BOMs), work orders and packing specifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Standing or walking for extended periods in warehouse or production areas.
  • Occasional use of forklifts, pallet jacks and other material handling equipment.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
  • Problem-solving mindset with continuous improvement focus.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing floor and warehouse environment.
  • Must be comfortable working around machinery, raw materials and production processes.
  • Occasional adjusted hours to get work accomplished may be necessary.
