Description
The Administrative Assistant for Neuroradiology is responsible for accurate scheduling of all Neuroradiology/Pain Management patients from within the Practice and outside Practices. The administrative assistant ensures all patients are scheduled after all authorizations and referrals are in place, and all screening questions are answered, utilizing established systems. This is a 32 hour a week position with the possibility for increased hours in the future but not a guarantee.
- Verifies patient insurance eligibility.
- Obtains necessary authorizations and insurance referrals prior to scheduling the patient.
- Communicates and collaborates with outside referring physician practices to ensure all information is gathered and shared with patient’s insurance carrier.
- Contacts patients after the Provider enters the order and explains process/next steps.
- Manage patient expectations for scheduling appointments/time frame
- Schedules patients after reviewing screening questions to ensure appropriate medications are discontinued as indicated and appropriate discharge instructions are understood.
- Facilitates any denied claims with retroactive authorizations or PCP referrals.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in medical insurance referrals, prior authorizations, or medical office administration required.
- Demonstrate professional communication and problem solving with providers.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred (orthopedics is a plus!)
- Able to work independently.
- Consistently demonstrates empathy for the patient.
- Great phone and people skills
- Must be a team player and willing to work together with a tight knit organization.
- Must possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with medical professionals, patients, and their families.
- Must be comfortable with EMR (electronic medical records)
- Must possess a personable, collaborative attitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage different projects simultaneously.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical administrative training preferred.
- Proficient in EMR systems
- Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:
- Work may require sitting for lengthy periods of time.
- Actively responding to phone calls throughout the day; bending and lifting files or supplies; manual dexterity to type, operate computer, telephone and other office equipment; vision and hearing must be within the normal range for telephone calls and engaging with patients; patience in working in a busy environment that can be stressful.
