About the Department

This is a full-time 1.0 FTE/8 hours per day position working on the CL-12 (12 months per school year) schedule.
This position is FLSA Exempt, generally 8-5 with some early morning, evening, and weekend hours required.


- Proven ability to develop and nurture business prospects through multiple methods: Networking, cold calling, interacting with advertising agencies, social media, timely response to inquiries, etc.
- Substantial sales and client-relations experience, preferably for a non-profit media organization
- Competent Public Speaking skills for sales presentations and hosting community events
- Experience with and knowledge of: Underwriting contracts and schedules, audio production, public radio copy writing, relevant Federal Communications Commission regulations, and radio automation software
- Ability to professionally interact with a wide variety of groups and individuals


Ensure the sustainable growth and financial health of a non-commercial radio station. Includes development of revenue sources, and the growth and maintenance of an active group of business underwriting clients. Supervise commissioned outside underwriting representatives, help organize and participate in fund raising membership drives and pursue major donor and grant opportunities.

Position Duties

This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.


  1. Present self and 4J in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards. 
  2. Ability to effectively communicate, disseminate, and effectuate verbal or written communication and directives to a diverse group of administrators, staff, and the broader district community.  
  3. Maintain a high degree of professionalism, integrity, dependability and maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices. 
  4. Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings and processes and a commitment to anti-racist principles. 
  5. Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA. 
  6. Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision. 
  7. Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation. 
  8. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution. 
  9. Maintain regular attendance at work.  Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules. 
  10. Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds and/or the ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.
  11. General knowledge of FCC regulations applicable to non-commercial radio stations and underwriting rules.
  12. General radio production skills, and ability to edit audio using Adobe Audition or similar software
  13. Ability to generate and maintain revenue through underwriting sales and fund-raising events.
  14. Ability to multi-task and maintain composure in a somewhat hectic environment
    *Work Environment – Work is primarily performed in a broadcast station facility, with off-site client meetings and event production and hosting as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualified as determined by Human Resources. 


    Education

    • High School Diploma required.

    Experience

    • 5 years of substantial sales and/or fund-raising experience, preferably in a non-commercial organization.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Associates Degree with 3 years of experience in business or non-profit operations.
    • Previous experience in a non-commercial radio station setting.
    • Previous experience in broadcast media sales.
