The University of Iowa Health Care department of Radiology Engineering is seeking an Engineering Specialist to Lead the day-to-day operations of the team charged with maintenance of Radiology specialty modality equipment (MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and PET).  Oversees preventative maintenance programs and equipment implementation.  Collaborates with staff and clinical leadership to ensure successful operations of clinical equipment.  Create and manage safe, functional, sustainable, and attractive solutions for products and facilities in the Department of Radiology through innovative design and the efficient use of resources while meeting regulatory requirements.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee equipment installation and maintenance for highly complex Radiology diagnostic imaging and treatment systems providing continuous 24-hour operational service for clinical use

  • Direct and oversee the work of equipment specialists and assume direct responsibility for all functions of the maintenance section

  • Provide department technical expertise and consultation on complex hardware and distributed hardware and software related problems

  • Assist in Coordinating equipment installation schedules within clinical areas

  • Conduct analysis of current and projected service maintenance projects and facility requirements

  • Assist in Scheduling staff and support personnel necessary for equipment installation, repair and maintenance

  • Develop and institute preventative maintenance procedures for specific equipment within multiple clinical areas

  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public

  • Supervision is received from the Specialty Modalities Department Manager.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

  • Project supervision is exercised over staff.

Education Required:

·      A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and three years of experience.

 

Required Qualifications:

·         Must demonstrate a high mechanical aptitude.

·         Advanced knowledge in physics, including basic interactions between electro-magnetic waves and matter.

·         Must demonstrate advanced knowledge in sophisticated imaging technologies such as Digital Radiography, Digital Fluoroscopy and Digital Angiography.

·         Advanced knowledge of radiographic principles and techniques.

·         Knowledge of radiation detection and radioisotope principles.

·         Excellent written, verbal and intercommunication skills.

·         Ability to read and comprehend electronics diagrams.

·         Must have valid driver's license and be able to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Management Driver's safety requirements.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in related program or administration.

·         Vendor specific diagnostic imaging training on multiple imaging modalities.

·         Knowledge of human anatomy.

·         Reasonable (1-3 years) related supervisory experience.

·         Experience working in WebTMA or other CMMS programs.

·         Experience in the management of radiological imaging system or equivalent.

·         Experience in the maintenance of equipment utilizing digital electronics and electro-mechanical peripheral devices.

·         Knowledge of state-of-the-art digital logic packages and microprocessors.

·         Working knowledge of high voltage distribution systems and electro-mechanical devices.

·         Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements for preventative maintenance programs.
