Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) is seeking a full time Peer Recovery Coach to work with Family Treatment Court and at our Heart of Iowa location. The Peer Recovery Coach utilizes their history of lived experience with substance use, recovery, and training to promote a life of recovery to patients of ASAC. The PRC serves as a mentor, role model and advocate for patients seeking substance use disorder treatment. The schedule for this role is Mon-Thurs 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-3pm.

As the Peer Recovery Coach you will:
- Understand and model recovery, utilizing the PRC’s lived experience to identify the tools and supports available to patients. When appropriate this may include selective and professional levels of self-disclosure and the ability to guide the patient in the development of their own definition and path towards recovery.
- Facilitate individual meetings with patients to discuss issues related to recovery from a peer perspective. Teach problem solving techniques, provide patients with coaching and insight regarding personal responsibility and resiliency.
- Lead groups focused on increasing wellness, daily living skills, and activities that increase general physical and mental health to create a recovery culture for patients receiving services.
- Support patients in the goal setting process to further their recovery and share resources and referrals to community and social support services.
- Engage in advocacy efforts to assist patients in navigating complex systems, accessing necessary supports and services, support of self-determination in shared decision-making processes with providers, and reconnecting patients to their community.
- Regularly attend provider team meeting to ensure the inclusion of patient-driven goals in services, consultation with the primary Counselor/Care Navigator to assess patient progress/service needs.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for services, funding, or reporting according to ASAC’s expectations, standards and timelines.
- Conduct presentations and engage in outreach activities for ASAC co-workers, health care providers, community agencies or other stakeholders.
- Maintain strict confidentiality, in accordance with HIPAA and 42CFR
Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, a self-identified personal experience with recovery, and one year of continuous, consecutive recovery is required.
- Knowledge of the challenges patients suffering from substance use disorders and/or mental illness will face in their recovery journey.
- The Peer Recovery Coach will be required to complete the CCAR based Recovery Coach training within six months of hire and achieve Peer Recovery Specialist Certification through IBC is required within 18 months of hire.
- This position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to pass an extensive background check.
Salary and Benefits
This role starts at $19.85.
