Compensation 

We’ll pay you an annual salary of $60,000 to $65,000.


About the Job 

We are seeking a leader to serve as our Aquatics Director is part of the Dell JCC Member Experience team and is responsible for the overall supervision and management of the Aquatics department, directly supervising the Aquatics Coordinator, two Aquatics Specialists and the Lifeguard team. They will also be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date Pool schedule, consisting of the Lap Pool, Children’s Activity Pool, Slides and Snack Bar. This position also oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the pool deck, and pump room. They will be responsible for CPR training for all Shalom Austin Staff and manage upkeep of staff records in collaboration with the Human Resources team. 


Under the direction of the Senior Health and Wellness Director, they will work closely with the Aquatics Department to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for Dell JCC members and guests. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:   


Supervision

  • Supervise three full-time Aquatics Staff

a. Aquatics Coordinator
b. Two Full-Time Aquatics Specialists

  • Supervise Part-Time and Seasonal Staff
    a. Head Lifeguards, Lead Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Group Swim Instructors, Snack
    Bar Staff
  • Recruit and hire an additional Aquatics Specialist to round out the Aquatics Management
    Team of four.

Operations

  • Operate the Rochelle and Stanley Ferdman Family Aquatic Center and manage the Pool
    Schedule
  • Oversee, manage, and monitor the Aquatics Budget
  • Oversee the daily chemical and cleaning operations such as pool vacuuming,
    maintenance of filters, chemical feed systems, and pool chemistry.
  • Oversight of required pool logs and reports per state and local health and safety codes.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs to the pool mechanical, chemical feed and filtration
    systems.
  • Ability to develop, monitor, and act on customer service policies and procedures. 

Programs

  • In partnership Aquatics leadership, manage all Aquatics programs, including Youth
    Swim Team, Group Swim Lessons, Private Swim Lessons, Masters Swim Team, and
    JCamps Swim Skillz.
  • Ability to manage basic and complex administrative duties, including but not limited to,
    program pricing, time and attendance records, water safety and other pool certifications,
    purchasing, customer registration, correspondence, website updates etc.
    Safety
  • Coordinate, develop, schedule, teach, and evaluate American Red Cross programs and
    classes for all Shalom Austin staff.
  • Train, lead, inspire, and evaluate aquatic staff, to keep safety as the number one priority.
  • Create and lead engaging in-service trainings and emergency drills and hold staff
    accountable for maintaining their certifications and skill competency.
  • Ability to respond effectively to facility emergencies in and out of the water while
    applying basic life safety principles and procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of new programming, lifesaving trends, and facility improvements in
    aquatics, to incorporate new ideas into trainings, programs and facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
  • 4-5 years of experience in lifeguard training and/or management
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator (within 3 months of hire)

Preferred education and experience

  • 5+ years in a management role
  • Degree from 4-year college or university
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer

Work environment

  • Environment provides for a safe and healthy work environment and is smoke and drug
    free.
  • Must always be ready to jump or swim in water with appropriate swimming attire during a
    water emergency or with an aquatics program.
  • Work is performed in an office environment and all-weather conditions, with potential
    exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet surfaces, pool maintenance equipment, infectious
    diseases and blood borne pathogens.
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather and/or inclement conditions, and at times in
    confined spaces.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with
    participant’s needs and safety issues; and tolerate loud noise associated with
    enthusiasm and excitement.
  • Constant medium to high level background noise.
  • Ability to move quickly, efficiently, and accurately.
  • May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
  • Ability to work extended hours outdoors in high and occasionally low temperatures; often
    exposed to extreme heat and sun for extended periods.

Physical demands:

  • Ability to swim for long distances, minimum 300 yards
  • Ability to pass rescue skills and first aid proficiency test.
  • Ability to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to sit, bend, and reach for extended periods of time
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods (often greater than 1 hour)
  • Must be able to see, speak, and hear.
