Job Title: Backcountry Ski Guide II
Department: Outdoor Adventures
Status: Seasonal (FT & PT)
Reporting To: Backcountry Guide Supervisor
Position Overview:
Backcountry SkiGuide- Snowcat & Human Powered Ski Touring
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide Backcountry clients on Ski Touring Trips in the Powder Mountain Backcountry. (Powder Mountain Resort and Off-site bookings)
- Schedule to be determined by skier demand and trip bookings.
- Expected to facilitate the safety and well being of client groups in hazardous Backcountry terrain, with limited support.
- Safety and Well being will include but not limited to:
- Navigating Avalanche Terrain effectively with large skier groups.
- Relaying pertinent safety instructions to Operations Team, Guests, and other Guides.
- First Aid and Emergency Response for injuries/incidents in the Backcountry.
- Participating in Operational SnowSafety meetings and Guide Briefing.
- Making and Reporting SnowPack data observations.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Guidelines of the Backcountry Guide Program.
- Personability- Must establish and maintain good client guide rapport.
- Integrity- Safe, honest, and prudent decision making under pressure.
- Follow-through- must perform basic administrative duties for trip reporting procedures per department and company standards.
- Will be expected to operate company vehicles during winter driving conditions to transport clients.
* Please Note: This position will facilitate both public skier needs for Powder Mountain Resort & Powder Haven Club. This position will specifically focus on backcountry ski guiding for both entities. Requirements and/or Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in Backcountry Navigating (Ski Patrol or Ski Guiding)
- Current Emergency Medical Qualification (OEC preferred)
- Professional Avalanche Level 1 (PRO1)
Physical Requirements- Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:
- Ski Tour 5,000+ vertical ft. Daily
- Ski and Hike with 40lb plus pack for a full day of operations
- Ability to move 200+lbs by toboggan or medical extrication device.
- Ability to navigate Backcountry Terrain in limited visibility/ Inclement weather.
- Assist in loading and unloading clients from snowcats, shuttles, lifts as needed.
- Ski expert level terrain.
Working Environment:
Ski Guides must maintain the ability to endure long ski days, self-sufficiently in a Backcountry environment. (40lbs+ Pack / 8hr+ daily). This work environment consists of both on-mountain and off-mountain backcountry terrain.
