To lead and manage the operations of the Central Metallurgical Laboratory by ensuring accurate, reliable, and timely metallurgical testing and analysis of materials and components, while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. The role is pivotal in supporting product integrity, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Metallurgical Inspection of Casting, Forged, Welded & Heat treated, Aluminium, stainless steel parts based on the request given by external department and review the drawing for material testing
- Knowledge in Heat treatment, Casting, Steel making, Forging, Welding, Sheet metal, Aluminium casting process.
- Metallurgical failure analysis of Field & Line failure parts.
- Prepare Work instruction, Yearly test plan for Mechanical & Metallurgy test.
- Hands on experience in various metallurgical lab applications like Harness testers (Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers), Portal hardness tester, UTM, Microscope (Metallurgical & Sterio), Optical Emission spectrometer, C&S analysis, Metallography equipment’s, etc
- Knowledge on NDT methods (LPT, MPT, Eddy current, Radiography, UT)
- Interpreting the results and reporting the conclusions very clearly.
- Preparation of detailed Metallurgical test reports for the tested parts.
- Able to read drawing understand material and test requirements
- Knowledge in National & International standards like ISO, ASTM, IS, DIN, JIS & SAE testing standards.
- Co-ordination with External laboratory for Chemical and Mechanical properties testing
- Calibration & Preventive maintenance of the Equipment as per the plan
- Kaizen / Continuous Improvement activities
- Maintain 5’S system in Laboratory
- Establish, Implements, sustenance and continual improvements of all Quality Management systems related to IATF/EMS/OHSAS/EnMS.
- Exposure to ISO/IEC 17025 documentation activities for testing laboratory.
- Coordinate with proficiency & Inter laboratory comparison (PT & ILC)
- Plan and calibrate equipment used for calibration, tests etc...
- Maintain the lab equipment in good and proper working condition.
- Maintain current version of National and International standards for testing and or calibration activity
- Ensure the validity of Testing & or Calibration results
- Participate in internal and external trainings & seminars
- Participate in CFT and solve the concerns related to Material Failure.
- Prepare annual OPEX (operational expenditure) and CAPEX (capital expenditure) budgets for the laboratory.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and confidently to various stakeholders.
- Basic knowledge on Plastic & Rubber testing which is related to automobile & EV industries.
- Knowledge on Automobile Commercial vehicles.
- Knowledge on Advance testing equipment’s related to Material testing & Digitalization knowledge in laboratory.
Education & Qualification Required:
Diploma in Metallurgy with 8 to 10 years of experience.
BE/BTech in Metallurgy with 4 to 7 years of experience.
