E.O. Smith High School seeks a motivated, enthusiastic, and thoughtful individual who can contribute to our school’s diversity through their teaching, scholarship, and/or service to the school community.
The World Language Department is comprised of 8 full-time teaching staff. The Spanish teacher will work with a team of professionals to provide pathways to students to learn a new language and understand other cultures. Ultimately, the teacher will work collaboratively to prepare students who take responsibility, think critically, are well informed, and active global citizens. The new department member will teach a combination of at least two courses, which will likely include Spanish 1 and Spanish 2.
WORLD LANGUAGE QUALIFICATIONS - Native or near native speaker of Spanish preferably with or eligible for Connecticut certificate: (#023), 7-12.
- Able to teach multiple levels of Spanish.
- Possess qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with all stakeholders.
- Experience or demonstrated understanding of providing culturally relevant instruction is preferred.
WORLD LANGUAGE TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop and deliver student centered lessons.
- Afford students diverse learning modes and opportunities to achieve mastery.
- Assess students regularly to provide timely and relevant feedback and support.
- Elicit parent and guardian collaboration to understand students learning needs.
- Collaborate with school counselors to develop and implement appropriate behavior management plans and interventions.
- Utilize student data effectively to plan student remediation, acceleration, and intervention.
- Actively participate in both department and school-wide professional development opportunities and school-sponsored events.
SALARY: In accordance with the agreement between the Region 19 Board of Education and the Region 19 Teachers’ Association. 2025-2026 salary range is $52,791-$ 106,053.
