Department Overview
The pre-procedure assessment center is a team of nurses working prior to hospital arrival with all patients and families to ensure a consistent, comprehensive preparation for anesthesia. This team works through review of patient medical records, verbal conversation with parents, use of multiple patient digital health platforms and as members of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary team to holistically meet needs of the patient and family, this professional nursing team decreases risk to the patient planning to receive anesthesia and decreases delays and cancelation of surgical procedures.
Position Summary
This individual has overall responsibility for ensuring that services and programs provided through their patient care service area is child- and family-focused, clinically appropriate, operationally efficient, and achieves effective patient outcomes. The focus of time will be spent developing and providing direction for delivery of care and nursing practice including financial and administrative management as well as quality leadership and improvement. The manager will monitor and support the skills and involvement of staff associated with the service and will cause such skills and involvement to be increased or expanded as appropriate to meet current and future needs. They will also assure that Children's core values are implemented and a culture of excellence in care and service is developed.
Areas of responsibility include the Pre-Procedure Assessment Center (PPAC) and Procedural Scheduling). This role reports to the Director Business Operations.
The PPAC is a centralized department serving all of Children's procedural/surgical locations; St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Minnetonka. It involves all aspects of preparing patients for procedures/surgeries; preoperative anesthesia screening phone calls to families, collaborating with clinics, online education, and prior authorizations. Responsible for all pre-procedure processes prior to patient arrival.
The Procedural Scheduling department is located within both the St. Paul and Minneapolis hospitals. Scheduling provides patient procedural scheduling for Perioperative Services and Medical Imaging.
License/Certification/Registration:
*MN RN license required
*BLS certification required
Education:
*BSN required
*MSN, MHA, or MBA preferred
Experience:
*Five years of experience in progressive management/leadership experience. Experience in any aspect of the perioperative patient process. Pediatric experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :
*Understand and promote the Children's values
*Strong skill set with patient experience
*Strong knowledge of the preoperative process
*Strong knowledge of scheduling practices
*Understanding of the prior authorization process
*Effective communication and customer service skills
*Strong IT knowledge
*Ability to work across departments with ease (marketing, IT, finance etc.)
