As a RAS Underwriter, you are responsible for evaluating submitted business to assess risk acceptability, matching price to exposure, loss frequency, and severity to ensure overall profitability. This role exists to ensure that profitable growth objectives are met through the generation and maintenance of a profitable book of business.

This position is remote for candidates residing in KS, MO, IA, WI, or NE. 

How you will drive profitability:

  • Accept or reject accounts by analyzing/evaluating class codes, scope of risk, experience modifiers, and all other relevant sources of information by documenting thought processes in policy administration systems within an individual letter of authority defined by the Underwriting Leadership team.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and legislative updates regarding workers' compensation.
  • Leverage internal and external data and analytics to proactively manage portfolio and agent performance, in partnership with key stakeholders in Underwriting, Business Development, Loss Control and Claims. 
  • Analyze workload, establish priorities, and manage the desk to focus on agents' needs, while meeting quality and time service standards for processing.
  • Assist leadership where needed in department planning and budgeting process.

How you will work with others:

  • Collaborate with Business Development to manage and grow an assigned group of agents through field visits, portfolio reviews, and performance analysis.
  • Partner with Loss Control, Business Development, and other key stakeholders to develop and implement service plans for eligible clients.
  • Work closely with partner agencies, brokers, producers, and account managers to understand client needs and negotiate policy terms within your authority, across an assigned territory or agency group.
  • Travel to agency partners' offices or industry events to build relationships, conduct planning, review and underwrite accounts. 
  • Engage in external marketing activities, including agency visits, client meetings, training sessions, and prospecting to effectively communicate the company's insurance products, value proposition, unique differentiators and competitive advantages.

What you will bring to this role:

  • Business or related degree preferred.
  • 3 or more years of previous underwriting experience and/or relevant business experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with company clients. 
  • Insurance related processional designation(s) preferred (CPCU, AU, ARM, ARe, etc.).
  • Valid driver's license and must be insurable.

Abilities required to be successful: 

  • Ability to be innovative and creative when presented with unique situations and be able to understand and meet the customers' changing needs.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate good working knowledge of the underwriting policy system and predictive analytics tool.
  • Ability to build successful relationships with internal and external customers by possessing good interpersonal communication, ability to work in a team environment, and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to explain rules and regulations under regulatory bureaus for workers’ compensation to agents and/or insureds.
  • Ability and willingness to pursue insurance designations to enhance professional development.
